The Albany Stakes, in its short life so far, has yet to have a winner go on to 1,000 Guineas glory, though Samitar did win the Irish version.
But after doing my best Simon Rowlands/GT impression after racing, even taking me shoes and socks off to help with the counting as I did me sums, every comparison I make with other races on the straight course today, allowing for ORs, wfa and all that malarkey, tells me Porta Fortuna clocked a decent overall time today.
She looks speedy and might not even be aimed for the race, but there’s stamina on the dam’s side and I wouldn’t want to lay her at 16/1.
So I’ve, err, backed her at 16/1 for this instead and will be hoping to win back considerably more than the stake next time she runs.

I can’t remember what I did 5 minutes ago let alone 5 hours ago but I think the young trainer seemed a step up in trip would suit but they will wait and seeBlackbeard to conquer the World
June 23, 2023 at 19:30 #1653156I think the Albany form will work out well this year so, wherever she and the others end up going next year, I’m hoping the race will prove a rich source of winners.

My pick in the Albany Nassava Island was a neck behind Porta Fortuna last time. Disappointing today or it could be your pick being progressive

June 23, 2023 at 23:27 #1653217The last three winners of the 1,000 Guineas were all beaten in the Albany.

She didn’t win the guineas, can’t even remember if she ran in it but she was Ante Post fav throughout the winter for it. Which kept me warm and saved on heating
Alpha Centuri came second that year. The Albany always throws up good ones. The female CoventryBlackbeard to conquer the World
July 27, 2023 at 17:21 #1656791Must admit I thought Ylang Ylang won in decent style just now.
By Frankel and nothing not to like about her pedigree.
If you’ve got a BetFred account and are actually allowed to use it, I doubt the 10/1 will see the dawn of another day (8s best elsewhere and as short as 5s).
I reckon that’s the yard’s Moyglare filly.

GRATEFUL
Sire: Galileo (IRE) (11.3f)
Dam: Tepin (USA)August 12, 2023 at 15:29 #1659620The conventional wisdom is that the progeny of No Nay Never are juvenile sprinters who don’t train on.
And many fit that profile.
But Alcohol Free was one exception and Cherry Blossom wasn’t half impressive at The Curragh today.
And the pedigree gives hope for a mile even if the running style might not.
25/1 with William Hill at present.

See The Fire – 33/1 William Hill
By Sea The Stars out of Arabian Queen (Dubawi) what better credentials could she have.
Like her sire she was very laid back in the parade ring whilst one or two fillies were kicking out especially Surveyor who threw her jockey. Always up with the pace she just needed a small reminder to scoot home up the hill. She’s a lively contender at this stage of the betting the 33’s might not last that long.. Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...August 12, 2023 at 16:34 #1659627Had a couple of 33-1 darts for now Triptych. That’s one of them and Red Viburnum the other. They both looked like they’d do better 2nd run so let’s see if we are still talking about them in a positive light in the Autumn.

She’s probably a very smart filly and we’ll have a look at the Lowther with her now. She looks like a Cheveley Park filly in time.”

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"August 12, 2023 at 21:41 #1659678I think See The Fire will definitely improve for winning her maiden in that way on a day when there were a lot if distractions around the parade ring. Newmarket held a Dinosaur Themed Day and there were lots of very young children around the parade ring quite a few screaming and shouting, it made the young horses a bit jinky but not See The Fire, she was all class.
Best of luck with those darts Mike.. JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...August 12, 2023 at 21:49 #1659679I respect your opinion, Jac, and she looks a nice filly, who won well and is sure to improve.
But I couldn’t back a Maiden winner for a Classic unless they won half the track, or beat something I knew was really decent or broke the clock and even the OR 71 Nursery winner was 2.75 seconds (that’s 17 lengths) quicker than her, carrying just a pound less.
I haven’t seen the sectionals yet though.
But she did all that was asked of her to win and I’ll be following her progress with interest.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"August 12, 2023 at 23:00 #1659680That’s fair comment Ian..I always get a bit carried away when I see such a beautifully bred filly and her Dam Arabian Queen was a favourite of mine.
She has been to the top of the tree with colts from Frankel and Kingman and now this filly from Sea The Stars who could be her best yet but too early to say she would win a Guineas, it’s just a bit of speculation anything can happen between now and then.
She may not be as special as I thought but it’s nice to start somewhere and will be interested to hear the outcome of your sectionals… JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...August 13, 2023 at 02:35 #1659686“Newmarket held a Dinosaur Themed Day and there were lots of very young children around the parade ring quite a few screaming and shouting.”
Nice of Newmarket, the home of horse racing, be so mindful of the horses (especially the unraced 2yo’s).
August 13, 2023 at 04:50 #1659691Triptych, i wouldn’t be put off by a 2 year old first time out one liked not smashing up the clock. It’s about what might still come with more race experience.
Frankel didn’t win 1st time out in a quick time. Sea The Stars didn’t make the first 3 on debut. Auguste Rodin got beat first time (and I backed him for the Derby at 18s after). So did Mother Earth. So did Tuesday. So did Snowfall. So did Love (took 3 goes to win a maiden yet she did the classic double at 3). The list could go on.
