Was rather surprised that Something doesn’t have an entry in the Stewards’ Cup.
I’ve got rather used to trainers giving horses multiple entries without any intention of running them.
He’s entered in the International Stakes instead, so this must be THE Plan.
July 1, 2010 at 22:03 #304109Think Signor Peltro has a decent race in him soon. This could be it.
Will also be interesting to see how Eton Forever gets on this weekend, think he’s potentially better than his last run and the form of his Kempton win is very good. He and Victory Ide Say are two of the three year olds that could be interesting for this anyway.
July 2, 2010 at 15:42 #304201Ascot slashes money in half for major handicap
By Neil Morrice 7:04PM 1 JUL 2010ASCOT’S International Handicap, one of the major betting heats at the Betfair-sponsored King George meeting, will be run without a sponsor this year at half the level of prize-money it had 12 months ago.
While the King George retains its £1 million prize fund, other races on the card have also beenthe subject of cuts, including the Group 3 Princess Margaret Stakes, which will have a fund of £40,000 compared to £55,000 in 2009.
The track’s head of public relations Nick Smith cited the economy as the reason why the 7f International Stakes Heritage Handicap, run as the Abu Dhabi International Handicap in 2009, will be run without a backer on July 24, leaving it with a prize fund of £75,000.
He said: "The reality is we’ve been unable to sustain the International as a 150K race.
"Although it had a backer last season, it will not have one this month. It will be run unsponsored as a 75-grand race. It’s not a major surprise in view of the economic climate."
July 2, 2010 at 15:57 #304202I thought this thread was for the International at York!
July 2, 2010 at 16:38 #15539July 2, 2010 at 21:37 #304238Gerald, the things you do for me!
July 2, 2010 at 21:56 #304242The eve of the Eclipse is actually an appropriate time to start this thread.
Was thinking about the 10f division a few days ago. There doesn’t seem to be a horse that will dominate it, and we might end up with a different horse winning each 10f Group 1.
July 2, 2010 at 22:04 #304248That statement is too true. It would be great if something came out and took the division by the scruff of the neck. Perhaps Rip Van Winkle will contest up the late season Group 1s, such as the International, Irish Champpion Stakes?
July 19, 2010 at 20:01 #307352The race has got itself a sponsor – Victoria Racing Club.
I presume this is the Australian one, and not a West End Gentlemen’s Club.
July 19, 2010 at 20:06 #307354Gosh, the race is still being advertised as £75,000 guaranteed. I wonder whether that is just typographical inertia, or whether the money just goes into Ascot’s pocket.

I have had my eye on
Al Muheer
for this for a long time but i too expect a big run from
Something
Gerald!
July 22, 2010 at 13:22 #307906Well that’s a surprise – Al Muheer is a Nicholls horse as well.
July 24, 2010 at 00:18 #308151Himalya @ 12/1
Still competitive off top weight and has the will and consistency to win. Drawn dead in the middle and wont have the rail to help him this time but at least the connections can decide which side to go. Big chance as always with this horse.
July 24, 2010 at 12:22 #308201Anyone else fancy Crown Choice? Surely he’ll be ridden to be put there on the line tomorrow. Strikes me as one who doesn’t like been in front too long and Spencer just had things conspire against him the last day with 3 groups and he was stranded in between groups. What he needed was a real Spencer ride!!!! Hopefully Eddie won’t do what he did on him in the Victoria. The usual up the middle route will allow him to get plenty cover. It was a good run in the Bunbury and he was beaten by in form horses . These 8/1 shots have holes in them, Yaa Wayl beat a right hound the last day and 103 isn’t easy, Tagseed has beaten sum exposed yokes and the form hasn’t worked out. Decent Fella has proper form but he didn’t race much in his irish days and has to be a problem horse, hasn’t raced for nearly 2 mths, has he had another setback? Single figure not for me. I don’t like the Buckingham Palace form at all. Hasn’t worked out.

Yes it is a surprise Gerald as he has only just got him! I expect to see the sort of horse who turned up last year! 34"s from 48" on the machine too! Ooh there"s gonna be a gamble!!!
July 24, 2010 at 12:55 #308205Anyone else fancy Crown Choice?
Yes Swain, his Bunbury Cup run was an eyecatcher for me,he is 4.2 to place on the machine and he would be one of my 4,along with
Al Muheer
,
Something
and
Himalya
, watch Advanced go and win now!
August 1, 2010 at 09:51 #310357Just had a look at the entries. There are 12 horses with a higher rating than the retired Dubai World Cup winner Gloria De Campeao.
Ballydoyle has Cape, Rip and Fame. Cape Blanco would be the most likely to run, returning to the scene of his Dante victory, along with the Viscount in a two-pronged attack?
This is the opportunity for Twice Over to show he has improved, as Fist claims, as he didn’t have to do anything special in a sub-standard Eclipse field.
Will Byword run? It seems from a few words spoken (though I haven’t looked at what happened in the past) that Abdulla wasn’t previously in the habit of running two main hopes, but precedents have been set this year in the Derby and the Prince of Wales’s.
