When a horse like Mostahdaf bolts in the inevitable question is: “Can this form be believed?”

I think there are reasons for believing it can.

Take him out of the race and Luxembourg have run pretty more to their ORs relative to one another.

So Ive taken the 4/1 with the William Hill Organisation, not least because he’s shorter elsewhere.

York are pretty good about not overwatering, so I think he will get a similar surface to Ascot.

He’s a horse iv followed for a good while (other than this years PoW  ) He was in my tote 10 to follow for last season

I had him pegged as a big possible improver at 4 because of his breeding but it didn’t come last season it was when he was 5

Not sure I’d trust him to back it up myself at this stage

    Though 4s was fair enough

Taken 10/3 Mostahdaf bet365 last firm standing
10f record superior to that over other distances and runs very well when fresh

With an endorsement from FF91 and Nathan now on the Mostahdaf bus I absolutely cannot have this one beat now.

Well, so long as Marmalade Of Marmalade doesn’t show up – because no one beats the Bear if he rocks up and gives you that stare.

Paddington gets broke by Mostahdaf if they both turn up here
He dug in well yesterday to see off a very good horse but Emily is stronger over 12f. Paddington gave his all and they raced hard for over a furlong and he did turn his head near the finish. He’s had a long season and could take in the Sussex. It will catch up with him eventually

I’ve had a bit more on Mostahdaf 7/2 with William Hills
This race is 15 days away and current favourite Paddington could in for a tough race today in the Sussex if the ground goes heavy. Even a win at a canter could take a bit out of him. He’s hard plenty of racing whilst Mostahdaf will be primed for this

Was Mostahdaf’s last run a fluke i wonder? A bit out of the blue that. That’s the dilemma i suppose. Also if they get weather like Goodwood it makes it difficult.

    Surprise rather than fluke imo
    He’s lightly raced for a 5 y/o
Possibly in his prime, does well with a break in-between races
Wasn’t fancied for Ascot but like Ian pointed out at the time he wasn’t far behind on the ratings. Was 4th the race before behind Equinox and Westover.
Better over 10f opposed to 12f.?

It was a surprise to me Mostahdaf won as far as he did at Royal Ascot, but he never had much to find on OR and I had 22/1.

In theory the ground could be desperate, but the weather forecast nationally gets better in the second half of August.

I was quite impressed with the other horse owned by same connections that won the other day. Owen Burrows is good at improving older horses as we’ve seen. Only trouble is owners may not run both.

Desert Crown red on oddschecker and out to 5’s
as good as he is/was they have pulled him twice since his comeback after a long time out through injury
bit of an insult that he was the same odds as Mostahdaf although as we know he has ability 3 wins and a runner up behind Hukum after that lay off isn’t bad form if the horse is sound

Only way the bear gets beat is fast ground IMHO. Could happen I suppose. He races so comfortably. Then can quicken twice. For once aidan not wrong. He’s a very unusual horse. By a great sire. Go on the bear. Arc last please aidan.🙏

There’s a long interview with Aidan O’Brien on his York runners here, I had two attempts at listening to it, but honestly, I got SO bored each time, I gave up after a few minutes – if you manage to get through the whole thing you’ve got more patience than me, good luck: https://www.sportinglife.com/racing/news/york-sky-bet-ebor-festival-day-one-entries-paddington-mostahdaf-and-desert-crown-all-in-juddmonte-international/211574
