RAVEN’S CHOICE DECLARED HUNT CUP WINNER

In an unprecedented disqualification, Raven’s Choice was declared the winner of the 119th Maryland Hunt Cup on Saturday when Imperial Way finished first by a half-length but was disqualified because a 20-pound weight slipped from his saddle pad during the course of the challenging four-mile race.

Owned by Mrs. Cary W. Jackson and trained by Todd Wyatt, Raven’s Choice finished six lengths clear of Stewart Strawbridge’s Guts For Garters, who was bidding for his second straight Hunt Cup victory, after finishing a nose ahead of hard-luck Imperial Way last year.Under the rules of racing, the jockey must weigh in following the race with the same weight as when going to the saddling area.

Never seen that happen before. Obviously a horse carrying 145lbs has a huge advantage over all the others carrying 165lbs, but it still must be heartbreaking to lose like that.

Also what on earth did y’all do to this website? It’s hideous.

Can’t see anyone quibbling having a 20lb advantage but only prevailing by half a length.

There have been a number of instances in Britain & Ireland in recent years of jockeys weighing in up to a stone light. Sometimes in mysterious or even suspicious circumstances.

An Aidan O’ Brien animal over hurdles about a year back was disqualified in similar circumstances,i had him backed and after looking like he was beat down the back, he flew home to win, i went about my business for the evening and came home to withdraw my winnings only to find he had been DQ’d :-( . Think it may have been Shield but not certain

I seem to recall one of Josh Gifford’s losing weight on the way round and when you watched the replay you could actually see it fall out!!
Might have been Mahogany or something like that not sure because its well back in the memory banks!!
