I see a few mentions from time to time of Horseracebase, but I don’t think I’ve seen one article about Inform Racing (I came across them on YouTube). Anyone any experience of them? A caveat, of course in that I was away from TRF for quite a long time and would be amazed if Inform has not been discussed here.
May 23, 2023 at 09:00 #1648790I have never used them and don’t know anybody that does Joe.
If you want free “ratings” try “Back That Horse” – https://backthathorse.com
I found them quite useful at times.
May 23, 2023 at 09:12 #1648791I do my own ratings and specialise in various niche areas.
There’s no edge in using ratings publically accessible to all and of course ratings are only a starting point for study anyway.
To those who say “I haven’t got the time and/or the inclination to compile my own ratings” I say: “if you haven’t got the time – or the work ethic – to put in the hard yards grafting and studying you shouldn’t be betting at all.”

Looks like they can do almost as much as Horseracebase. My main interest is the master speed ratings Inform produces, which look, at first glance, much better planned and more reliable than the likes of Topspeed. I don’t know if Mike still posts here – The Blues Brother – but he would attest to the work needed to get good speed figures.
May 23, 2023 at 14:26 #1648812I have the dubious distinction of having gone to school (and nearby unis) with – and arguably even got into racing – the bloke who after uni became Phil Bull’s assistant doing the computer time figures at Timeform, Joe.
I even did an interview with him for The Independent once: https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/man-with-time-on-his-side-1329067.html
Me and him were doing our own speed ratings way back in the early 1980s.
Of course it’s all moved on since then, notably the advent of sectional time usage.
Even so, suffice to say I hear you!
