Tied Cottage Chase
Big Zeb @ 11/10 (Boylesports)
€150 win
Looks a penalty kick against this field. He clearly has Golden Silver’s measure and that horse beat Sizing Europe comfortably at Punchestown in April. His jumping is now his main asset and he should be about a 4/7 shot to land this race.
January 25, 2011 at 22:10 #337652Would not give up hope on Ballymak…2m4f a good galloping track he hose up. Jumping was a bit dodgy too. They first 2 drew 5f from the rest.
January 26, 2011 at 10:07 #337725He’ll win a beginners chase before long alright but I’m sure they had loftier ambitions for him.
1:10 Limerick
Aughaloor @ 4/6 (Paddy Power)
€150 win
There’s not much between him and Bayross on a line through Lord Redsgirth but given how Mullins’ normally come on for their reappearance, I’d be confident he’ll account for him. Abbey Lane has to give him 6lbs and is only rated 123 so I can’t see him winning. I’d be very hopeful that Aughaloor will be rated a 140+ horse by the end of this season.
January 26, 2011 at 14:17 #337738Where did that result come out of?
2:35 Musselburgh
Red Merlin @ 6/4 (Stan James)
€50 win
Form with Minella Class reads well and there’s nothing of that calibre in this race.

Storming Gale @ 4/1 (Totesport)
€50 e/w
Hosed up in a p2p at Lismore and now joined top English yard. Trip here should suit and should go close.
3:20 Thurles
Jy Vole @ EVS (insurebet 2 places Paddy Power)
€100 win
Unlucky in the Durkan when given too much to do. Didn’t stay in the Lexus. Drop back in trip and going right-handed here will suit her.
3:50 Thurles
For Bill @ EVS (insurebet 2 places Paddy Power)
€100 win
Well behind the favourite at Clonmel but she needed that run and gets a handy weight concession today. Morning Supreme should set a frantic pace which should bring For Bill’s abundant stamina into play. All her best form is in a true run race and she should get that today.
January 27, 2011 at 16:13 #337918Aughaloor -€150
Formbook was turned on its head in this race. Don’t know if any excuse was forthcoming for Aughaloor’s run but you’d be disappointed if that was the level of his ability.
Red Merlin -€50
Never got into the race after a bad mistake down the back.
Storming Gale +€360 (sp 6/1)
Looks a proper horse. Pulled hard for most of the first half of the race yet he was still galloping at the end of a testing two and a half miles. Great to see p2p form to the fore.
Jy Vole -€100
Appeared to be a bit unlucky again. She was badly hampered when Mossbank fell and it may have spooked her a bit. I think she might have gone a bit closer had the last not been omitted – big long run in wouldn’t have suited. She’s becoming a bit frustrating to follow now and I’m starting to think she may be one to swerve from now on.
For Bill +€100
Had a feeling she was well capable of turning around the Clonmel form with Willie’s mare. She’s such a likeable mare. Great jumper by all accounts and stays really well. I thought it was a terrific ride by Carberry.
Overall P/L: +€359.56

Not bad for a day’s work, IC.
Storming Gale is certainly an exciting prospect and For Bill looks to be rapidly progressive following an impressive return to fences at Thurles two weeks ago.
January 27, 2011 at 16:29 #337921Always had a soft spot for For Bill. Both the owner and trainer are real characters and it’s always great to see a small yard giving the big boys a bloody nose. I heard Adrian Maguire (Mike Winter’s brother-in-law) talking about her a few years back and I’ve followed her since.
Argento Chase (Cheltenham)
Punchestowns @ 11/4 (Victor Chandler)
€50 e/w
I think this is a very generous price for a horse of Punchetowns’ ability. He was the only horse to give Big Bucks a race over hurdles. I don’t think his transition to chasing has been as unsuccesful as some people make out. Sure he ran a poor race at Cheltenham last year but I’d forgive him that. Plenty of real good horses down the years have found the RSA (or the Arkle) just too much too soon – War Of Attrition being a prime example. I would have been happy enough with his run at Newbury – he’s sure to have come on for it and I think Pride Of Dulcote is a lively Gold Cup outsider himself. Tatenen was a mile back in third and he’s bolted up since.
Time For Rupert is too skinny. He’s done everyting nicely so far but I’m not sure the form is worth that much. He beat Chicago Grey last time out by 8 lengths but he’s not even the best novice chaser in Gordon Elliot’s yard and he was well beaten over Christmas at Leopardstown. Time For Rupert has never met this class of horse over fences and I have a hunch he’ll be found wanting. 11/8 is a ridiculous price. Tidal Bay will have his supporters but I can’t have the horse at all – he’ll probably have a going day and bolt up now! Everything else in the race looks either exposed or in decline.

Lady Knightess @ 9/2 (Bet 365)
€25 e/w
This mare has a good pedigree and is apparently working very well down in Tralee. Reminds Tom Cooper of the great Total Enjoyment. Very noticable jockey booking as well. She’s been well punted all morning but is still a decent enough price in what looks a weak enough bumper on paper.

Crash @ 7/4 (Stan James)
€50 win
I’m giving this horse one last chance. This is a weaker race than those he’s ran in at Fairyhouse and Naas and the step up in trip should suit. I’m not sure Willie’s horse will enjoy this ground and he looks the main danger.

Pivotal Rock @ 5/1

I’v been hearing good things about this horse. I’ve concerns over the ground given his breeding but worth a small bet at the odds.
