Now confirmed that If The Cap Fits was fatally injured in today’s veterans’ chase at Aintree. What a wonderful horse he was, and how terribly sad that his first ever fall was a fatal one. He completed every single previous race that he ran in, and won £326k including the Grade 1 Liverpool Hurdle. RIP If The Cap Fits

Just catching up on the racing now and sorry to see his name here. He was a bonny little horse and did well to win his G1. He held his head up in decent company over fences too.

Sad to see his name here, he will be a great loss to all who loved and cared for him.

Clearly never really took to fences and yet sent out under a conditional at Aintree today with predictable result. Shame on connections (aside from jockey & stable staff).

Eminently avoidable and If The Cap Fits should not having been running in this event. This is sort of demise that does the reputation of the sport no good whatsoever.

This is another one of those occasions where I get uneasy about laying blame following the sad passing of a racehorse on the track. If we consider connections to be morally wrong for risking If The Cap Fits today, then surely we should be equally critical of the connections of Millers Bank, who had failed to complete two out of six chases before today, and has now added another non-completion to his record.

There is a very long list of horses who were not the most fluent jumpers who still had success, and If The Cap Fits had never fallen before today. His previous chasing form was of a high standard.

I am certainly no fan of his most recent owner, but he seemed to have been set an appropriate enough task today based on last season’s form.
