Got home in time to watch the Hunter at Donny ,nice ride on Ice Tea ,Aintree foxhunters i`m thinking.
On a side note realised the colours were those of D (Doug?)Mallam those with long memories will remember his Prime Justice finishing a gallant if tailed off last in the 79 National .
Strange to think he hasn`t had another runner or even entry in the 32 years since .
Apropo of nothing i suppose but thought i`d note it.

    Cheers G

There have been plenty of successes over the years for runners in the Malam colours, especially on the PtP/Hunter scene, with horses such as Warleggan, Nodform Wonder, Hanakham, Cornish Gale, Idle Talk etc. Most of the recent ones have been in the care of Sian McCain.

Warleggan was one i tried to remember so thanks for the remainder i seem to remember him being a multiple winner.

I also seem to remember that Prime Justice was ridden by a newsagent Ak Taylor? or has my memory gone to pot.

AK Taylor is certainly given as the rider in the 79 National, though no idea as to anything else. Not sure he gets a mention in the race and you can just see him pootling around the home turn in his own time as the front few take the last two fences.

It’s Derek Malam (not Doug) – great supporter of point-to-points in the North-West – had his 60th (I think) winner last season …

Cornish Gale entertained us with regular wins at Eyton for many years.

Yes Derek Malam has long had pointers with the McCains. A great supporter of racing in our area.
