June 20, 2007 at 16:49 #65656it only goes and wins after
June 20, 2007 at 16:50 #65658My guess is that he will be evicted from Hamilton Racecourse.
June 20, 2007 at 16:50 #65659Mayb the oldie is paying tribute to Bernard Manning.
June 20, 2007 at 16:55 #65660He did use the word, Heffo. I was fairly stunned. I doubt whether we’ll hear this fellow’s opinion again.
June 20, 2007 at 17:19 #65661Joe something. Don’t know him. Didn’t catch surname.
June 20, 2007 at 19:32 #65662Hello,
I remember Jim McGrath said the same on The Morning Line once.
The following week, he appeared before the show and made an apology.
It was all forgotton after that…if this guy does the same, if a regular on the show, it should also be forgotton.
Making a mistake should not be totally unforgivable.

June 20, 2007 at 19:35 #65663Political correctness gone mad.
He didn’t use the word in an abusive way.
He didn’t call anyone a nigger, he used an expression that has been around for years.
Joe Rowntree, I believe, is the man’s name.

June 20, 2007 at 19:45 #65664If only it could be overlooked. But if it has been noted by someone on here then surely lots have ppl have noticed the slip of the tongue and, considering the trouble BB have been in with similar issues of late, I’ll bet someone somewhere, or maybe many people ‘manywhere’, will complain to RUK. I think this lad may be in trouble…
To be quite fair, yes, people do make mistakes left, right and centre, but if you’re on TV you really should know better than to make comments like that.
June 20, 2007 at 20:42 #65665The idea that other peoples and races are inferior – in this case, to be bought and sold at will, just like a commodity, an inanimate object has been around for years too, Seabird. That’s the trouble with that word.
There are many, many examples of so-called "political correctness gone mad" in our barmy, degenerate society, but that isn’t one of them. To object to it is correct, politically and in every other way.
On the subject of political correctness of a less laudable nature, though, there was, a hilarious article in the papers some time ago now – some of you must have have read it – about Geoff Hoon allegedly forcefully urging the SAS to take in women.
Apparently, an officer was heard to object to Hoon, "But Sir we’re not PC. We kill people…"
Hoone furiously denied it, but the sources stood by their report.

June 20, 2007 at 21:08 #65666Today’s guest was Joe Rowntree, didn’t see the incident but sure he wouldn’t have meant it in an offensive way.
Mind you, Paul Morrison did exactly the same last year I think and mud has stuck in that case.
June 20, 2007 at 22:44 #65667To be quite fair, yes, people do make mistakes left, right and centre,
Funny, I’m 39 years old and I can’t remember any time in my adult life that I made the "mistake" of using the word "n***er".
Maybe it’s a mistake that’s a lot easier to make if someone’s a r**cist?

It’s my guess that Joe Rowntree is a fair bit older than 39.
Like me, he was probably brought up in an age where ‘n….. in the woodpile’ was a fairly common expression, used to convey a certain meaning without the slightest hint of malice or racism.
That it is construed differently nowadays is a sign of the times we live in, maybe we should also allow a little tolerance for those from a different era?
Who knows, the seniors amongst us might one day come to accept the drugs, violence, binge drinking, and everyday effing and blinding that is so much a part of modern pc society?;)

As opposed to the blatant sexism, racism, homophobia and class based society that was even more prevalent previously?

Not to forget slavery, bear-baiting, press-gangs and burning witches at the stake?;)
June 21, 2007 at 06:47 #65671That’s right because drugs, violence, binge drinking and swearing have only been around the last few years.:cheesy:
June 21, 2007 at 07:13 #65672If I was Joe Rowntree I’d be thinking more about apologising for some awful analysis rather than what was a ‘verbal fart’.
I don’t remember Lydia being asked to apologise for that infamous handover to John *unt.
I was told that Racing UK received the huge amount of FOUR complaints over that verbal aberration.
