I generally prefer WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) “does what it says on the tin” titles for threads.

But, for once, I thought I’d take a leaf out of ERL’s book with a similarly shameless “click bait” title.

Anyway, to paraphrase Jackie Childs, one of my favourite Seinfeld cameo characters, if I raised an eyebrow at Opera Singer being a confirmed entry for Friday’s Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket, I am shaking my head in sheer disbelief at the idea she might be going to the Breeders’ Cup.

What is the subsequent Classic record the following year of juveniles taken Stateside?

I haven’t actually checked, but Meditate hasn’t exactly been a dazzling success as a 3yo, has she?

Jackie nails how I feel about this notion: https://youtu.be/r2EirLJqghA?si=22Ji0Btp_3IDz9IB

This gives me a morsel of hope!

Any juvenile fillies run at the Breeders’ Cup then gone on to Classic success in the 1,000 Guineas and/or the Oaks at Newmarket and/or Epsom Downs the following year?

    Sky Lantern another

Oaks winners at a glance nothing jumps out although its just a glance

Two year Olds sent to the breeders cup are more than likely earlier maturing horses? or very fast which is possibly why guineas would stand out more than the Oaks.

2015 Qualify the last horse to win the Oaks that run at the Breeders

Oaks winners tend to have a lighter two year old campaign

Opener Singer currently on 5 runs

    Ian, that was pretty much

As you might know my so called click baits are as innocent as Jackie’s bystander.

Truly great stuff, Nathan, feel MUCH better now – but I still hope Opera Singer doesn’t run again this year!

    ERL – quality!

    Gotta love Jackie!

Breeders Cup gives Opera Singer longer to get over the Boussac than the Fillies Mile.

However, the reason why Oaks types don’t do as well as Guineas horses racing in the States is probably due to conditions favouring speed over stamina. More like a race over 7 1/2 in Europe. Ryan also had to push Opera Singer vigorously in order to get her favoured prominent position (led or raced prominently since debut). Given the way they race in the USA compared to France, if she isn’t faster from the gate it won’t be as easy to get that prominent posi’. If unable – and leaders slow the pace down – then Opera Singer may be in trouble.

Getting beaten in the USA shouldn’t be detrimental to her Oaks hopes. It may also be a race they are using to indicate whether she’s likely to have enough speed for the Guineas or go for an Oaks trial instead.

No Opera Singer in the Fillies Mile – O’Brien runs his other two entries.
