Agree, a change of stables, particularly a smaller stable can rejuvinate some horses. May be Ms Lavelle or Miss West could do the job?

Value Is EverythingDecember 12, 2008 at 15:31 #196387.sendinng him to a new yard todo the same thing isn’t the answer IMO and anyway who one earth is going to do any better than Alan King?
Not really a question of another trainer doing better than Alan King, but more one of hoping a change of environment/groom/feed/training regime will rekindle the horse’s lust for life on the racecourse. By no means certain to work but it’s a tried-and-tested last resort.
Hence King’s words about a change of stable possibly helping being so admirable. Such a move patently does not mean his training skills are lacking, simply that his methods are no longer working for this particular horse and he’s quite happy to admit the fact.
The thing is it’s not neccesary as such and Alan King is maybe beinga bit too dramatic.
Many years ago Capt Ryan Price had a horse called What A Myth who was suffering from a loss of form and he left the yard on a temporary basis he sent him hunting in an attempt tosweeten him up. With the pressure of racingoff him the horse came back likea new animal and the Cap then ran in some Hunter Chases where he got back to his winning ways.
Not only did the horse bounce backhe went on to win the CheltenhamGold Cup as a 12 year old.
I’mnot saying that would work with MWDS but it would have the same or more affect on him than just moving yard and Alan King could continue training him if it did work.
It is very big of Mr King to suugest this but if I was the owner I would be much happier trying that route than taking my horse away from a trainer who had done so well for me.

Even with RPR rating him as the winner (Which is – at the very least – a questionable supposition), they still have him running 9lbs and 12lbs below his previous ratings from the same race, which ought to tell you something?
Hmm, fair enough. Does a horse always have to run to the same "official" figure to show he is as good as ever?
KS sometimes just does enough, but at Kempton…he usually blows them away…we’ll see. TBH though, I’m starting to feel Tidal bay is a great E/W price for the King George. KS is the main danger though – just that TB’s price is becoming too tempting – he’ll soon be touching 7/1 on the high street.
