Black Sam , I will not be as temperate as Paul as regards RFC , they are a shambles , and this needless tweaking is systematic of their inane ideas combined with the constant desire to tinker with fundamentals that are engrained in the very heart of our game
what a phuggin bunch of merchant bankers

May 17, 2011 at 11:24 #355798Ricky, you’re jumping on a bandwagon here. Nowhere does the article suggest that owners will be forced to use these colours. I don’t think RFC would be so stupid as to force Pearl Bloodstock or Godolphin to wear anything they don’t want to.
The silks have been designed by students. I’m sure any owner has the option to use the design if they wish. I like some of them; they’re not too dissimilar to some of the designs you might see in the US or Japan.
Why not treat it for what it is, and not what you want it to be (so you can then moan about it) ?
May 17, 2011 at 11:27 #355799Gingertips, given your form study will you be doing one of your 100% book things on the design competition
Anyone who knows me could tell you Pompete, I have no fashion sense. So to make a book on anything to do with clothing would be asking for trouble.
Think I’ll be sticking to racing.
Although on the other hand, with last weekend’s results may be I should look for another outlet.
Should have made a book on the colour of the Queen’s hat today.
Value Is EverythingMay 17, 2011 at 16:48 #355851Anyone would think they were replacing silks with a fetching cummerbund/chaps combo.
May 17, 2011 at 17:13 #355854Sam , I sure your right about the silks , I a talking about the bigger picture as a whole , apologies for having to spell that out ….
cheers
May 17, 2011 at 19:44 #355873I thought they went too far blasting irrelevant music over the otherwise heart-warming cheers and applause of the winner’s enclosure
I find it so hilarious, I’ve dubbed it the Ridiculously Overdramatic Music and sometimes sing or drum along to it. Compare it to the lovely understated music they play at Cheltenham. Even the Take That song at Kauto’s 4th King George was more appropriate than this movie trailer rip off stuff.
May 20, 2011 at 12:39 #356216Bud Flanagan’s specially-designed Crazy Gang colours didn’t lead to the destruction of the sport as we know it, did they?
They didn’t, agreed, but two points;
1) For all that they were multicoloured in a way no other silks before or since will ever be, the "Crazy Quilt" was still ultimately based on a design recognisably pre-existing on jockey silks – the check.
2) It was precisely because there is no other colour scheme out there that’s anywhere near as busy that the "Crazy Quilt" presents as few problems spotting it as it does. It’s very incongruity is its strength.
However, a 16-runner field in which numerous / many / all riders are carrying colours as complicated and busy as any of those the students created risks losing that recognition-through-incongruity.
And it’s hard to envisage who losing that would actually benefit, if picking out busy silks at high speed makes the job too hard for racereaders, commentators and most of all racegoers.
If nothing else, it’s really going to knacker the silks design tool I use on the Allertons website every week…
