Sir Michael Stoute takes the wraps off Sea The Stars two-year-old Red Striker at Chelmsford tomorrow.

The ‘original’ Red Striker won the 2002 Peter Marsh Chase for the Red Marauder team of Richard Guest and Norman Mason. Largely out of form afterwards until picking up a hunter for Tina Jackson in 2006. Sadly collapsed and died after finishing fourth at Wetherby on his next start.

Today’s opener at Cork went to Be Rude Not To, the second coming of Berude Not To.

The original won the 1994 Challow Hurdle and was runner-up in the 1995 Sun Alliance Hurdle.

Apollo Creed is back up off the canvas at Carlisle tomorrow.

Summer jumping fans will remember Apollo Creed I rattling up a hat-trick over fences in summer 2008. He passed away while in training in 2009.

Voices Of Spring (#2) fell in the 4.45 at Punchestown today.

One of his predecessors with that name was trained by John ‘Mad’ Manners. This particular Voices Of Spring (#1) won a race at his local point-to-point at Siddington, near Cirencester sometime in 1988.

However, the horse was disqualified and Manners banned for 3 years when he was observed by bemused spectators putting the weight cloth on after the race instead of before, like everybody else.

It’s no less than a scandal that an anonymous animal such as Voices Of Spring (#2) has been given the same name as an enterprisingly trained horse like Voices Of Spring (#1).

There’s a horse currently running in the 4:30 at Uttoxeter called Brown Trix which is the same name as a horse that was killed in the 1989 Grand National.

Turnkey (Ire) is out for his second start at Dundalk tomorrow night.

I remember Turnkey (GB) – a classy 7-time winning sprinter for Dandy Nicholls and Mick Channon in the 2000s.

Not a clue what ‘Hateel’ translates to, but Hamdan must like the name as it’s second time around following Peter Walwyn’s useful handicapper from 25 years ago.

Not to forget the 1971 version (also a sprinter) a Tudor Melody colt trained by Noel Murless

Casey Jones (IRE) just won at Newcastle for John Gosden in the colours of Princess Haya.

You don’t need to go back far to find Casey Jones I (IRE), who was a 2001 foal and a Grade 1 winner in the 2008 Knight Frank Novices’ Chase, pipping Trafford Lad at 25/1. He finished 5th in Cooldine’s RSA before winning a Grade 3 the next season. He was fatally injured when brought down by Knowhere at the Cheltenham Festival.

Watching ATR today, the outsider in 4:20 at Southwell was called Red Shanghai, in the previous race, the 4:10 at Thurles, the outsider was called… Red Shanghai.

I notice that a Mr Mason has a Red Striker in training with Sir Michael Stoute. Not Norman this time but Ged, along with Sir Alex and others.

It’s twelve years since the previous Red Striker, an erstwhile Dipper and Peter Marsh Chase winner, passed away whilst in service with Tina Jackson.

I notice also that there is another Alph in training, just eight years after Andy Chard and Roger Teal’s popular giant ran his last. This latest incarnation contested a Ludlow newcomers’ bumper for Nicky Henderson a week last Sunday.
