No problem billion. One of the aims of the thread was to stimulate dicussion by perhaps using other ratings.
Results from yesterday using HRB Ratings…
Bri 3.30 Noah Jameel (£11.24)
Red 3.40 Timocracy (£11.14) Non-runner
Bri 4.00 New Code (£10.93)Muss 5.20 Eijaaz (£12.04) LOST
Running total: + £170.65
Today’s HRB Ratings based system selections are..
Yar 3.10 Al Rayanah (£9.76)
Ling 3.20 Dream Of Fortune (£9.43)
Yar 3.40 Exopuntia (£9.65)
Yar 5.10 Wood Fair (£7.22)September 14, 2010 at 11:21 #317477Good day yesterday, well done.
I am still not sure about the concept of this system.
Is it as simple as trying to find the best betting selection of the top rated?
Or is it trying to find the best ratings?

September 14, 2010 at 12:07 #317486Just trying to find out how good HRB ratings are
discretedata
and so today I have chosen something different from the OR and gone for Mirror ratings (having something of an upsurge on the forum of late.
Yarmouth 3.10 FINAL DRIVE £2.05 (from 14/1 to 25/1)
Yarmouth 3.40 ASTRODONNA £2.05 (7/2)
Lingfield 3.20 LUCKY PUNT £1.36 (8/1)
Haydock 5.00 SWITCHED OFF £1.20 (3/1)Also tried Lawrence Taylor’s speed ratings (ATR) with 4 losers

September 14, 2010 at 13:50 #317503I’m very impressed so far. A cracking profit and long may it continue!
Is this something you have been working on for long?
September 14, 2010 at 14:26 #317506Great stuff – interesting thread, will follow with interest.

September 14, 2010 at 17:25 #317525Hi All
This is certainly a different way of looking at
ratings. It has had an EXCELLENT start but looking
at the results so far (i know there only 17)it appears that the rating multiplied by 100 must be higher than the value of the race.STAKE RESULT PRICE
7.22… WON…. 4.10
10.09.. LOST
12.56.. WON…. 7.04
12.63.. WON…. 2.90
10.50.. LOST
9.72… LOST
12.03.. WON…. 1.43
11.11.. LOST
6.80… LOST
5.66… LOST
11.24.. WON…. 9.00
10.93.. WON…. 3.90
12.04.. LOST
9.76… LOST
9.43… LOST
9.65… LOST
7.22… LOSTLooking at the list above there is only 1 winner from 8
selections where the stake is less than 10.00.5 of the 6 Winners have a stake of 10.93 +
Will definately keep a check on the progress of this
system .Well done Discretedata
September 14, 2010 at 17:31 #317527Hi Discretedata
Try putting dots before the words
Course…….Time…….SELECTION
KEMPTON……3.30…….GREEN GODDESS
There’s probably a better way but this seems to work.

September 15, 2010 at 08:03 #317587In response to a couple of posts…..
Thanks for your input. However, with respect your analysis may be clouding your understanding of the method.
There are three steps to identifying the day’s four selections.
Step 1. Identify the HRB Standard Ratings
top or joint top rateds only.
Step 2. Generate the VR figure by multiplying the rating figure by 100 and dividing the resultant figure by the race prize money figure.
Step 3. Rank the VR figures in descending order.
The four horses at the top of the list, i.e. those with the four highest VR figures are the day’s selections.
Thanks for your continuing interest. Regarding the concept. Please see my post on 12/09/10 at 06:50. This explains the theory for what it’s worth.
If you haven’t already done so have a look at the link below.
http://www.horseracebase.com/ratingsmachineusermanagement.phpThe HRB Standard Ratings consist of three main elements, (1) Race Score, (2) Horse and (3) Jockey & Trainer.
Within each element there are variety of preset conditions too numerous to mention here. Basically the rating is enhanced where any of those preset conditions are met. For instance in the Jockey & Trainer element the rating could be further enhanced if the Jockey & Trainer had a combined strike rate of 20% or higher.
I hope this helps.

Non-working day for me so I’ve got a little more spare time today.I don’t know if you’ll find it helpful or not but I’ve uploaded three spreadsheets to Google Docs this morning which hopefully will illustrate the selection process. A brief description of each step is shown below. Just click on the link beneath each step to view.
Step 1
<a href="https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AjriKHhwpRQQdGpRNEtnUVQyZzRLWWMwX3JJRzdGRHc&authkey=CKe6oLEJ&hl=en#gid=0
“>https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AjriKHhwpRQQdGpRNEtnUVQyZzRLWWMwX3JJRzdGRHc&authkey=CKe6oLEJ&hl=en#gid=0This is the spreadsheet downloaded from HRB after I’ve removed the Irish meetings and sorted the remainder in to track and time order.
Step 2
https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AjriKHhwpRQQdEI3ajd0WVp2dERZTFV3cU5uVmVKd2c&authkey=CKK56f4J&hl=en#gid=0
Here I’ve added added two columns VR and VR RANK. The figures in these columns are generated by a simple formula.
Step 3
https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AjriKHhwpRQQdE1rOXF0bEVSNGxnNWJ1UHVyR29QQWc&authkey=CL6hioYO&hl=en#gid=0
Here I have sorted the data – VR RANK ascending order and VR descending order. The four horses at the top are today’s selections.
Let me know if any of the links don’t work or if you have any other queries.
All the best.

September 15, 2010 at 17:37 #317676You are a good chap
discretedata
taking as much time and making a huge effort to get your message across.
I have no doubts whatsoever that this system works and I can quickly and easily work it on a daily basis, I am even having a little fun testing different ratings etc.
What I do not understand is WHY it works. The HOW is perhaps more simple – either the rating is good or no good and should in theory be selecting the best horse in the race and then equates the stake.
Where I get lost is the WHY!
Why should it work better with the lower value races.
Am I looking a gift horse in the mouth
, as the saying goes, and should I even be questioning the rational but the concept is so different from anything I have previously come across. I want to
GET IT
but I am afraid
I DON’T
.
