Agree Ian, puns have no place in racing commentary and you often get the feeling that they are pre-planned. If you’re going to use them, at least come up with them on the hoof.
September 15, 2023 at 07:42 #1663048I’d have enjoyed it more if I’d backed him Ian but for cringeworthy TV I thought Luke Harvey ‘playing’ Rugby was much worse and even on mute when they lifted him aloft it looked like they were trying to send ET home.🚀
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...September 15, 2023 at 07:52 #1663049It’s all down to personal taste and commentators and racing presenters generally are no exception.
Some people were raving about the commentary when Frankel won the International Stakes at York – all that poetry and destruction cringe – but it made me feel quite ill and sent me straight onto the dark web to try to hire a contract killer.

Eliminate the negative.
Latch on to the affirmative.

I too thought that the ‘poetry and destruction’ lark was pre-rehearsed. I think my face fell like a collapsed lung when I first heard it.
On the other hand, Simon Holt’s commentary on the race was far better. There was a moment where he must of been so excited as the race unfolded that he stuttered saying “St Nicholas Abbey”
