Feel I have to vote for Denman for the sheer magnificence of him..but my heart wants to vote for Katchit..two horses who epitomize everything wonderful about the jumps [ps Voy Por Ustedes spelt wrong..love him also as always underrated]
December 9, 2008 at 00:24 #195523Why is VPU on the list?
Kauto Star deserves a mention for his early form last season. But suppose most of it was in 07.
The Monster made it three Stayers Hurdle wins which is a magnificent achievement. But that is over three years not one and the form is not outstanding. If getting my vote because of retirement would only be sentiment.
Katchit was gutsy but the form is only average. May be he only does enough.
So it is between Denman and Master Minded. If Denman’s Hennessy was in 08 would’ve given it to him but only has one top class run to his name in 08. Wonderful performance in the Gold Cup but Kauto Star was below form.
Master Minded just earnt my vote last weekend. Now with two top class 08 efforts. The Queen Mother in particular was a terrific run. Beating a previous winner 19 lengths eased down with 16 lengths back to the third.

Value Is EverythingDecember 9, 2008 at 16:21 #195622No brainer… maybe he’ll be recognised for the horse he is when he wins it again… and if not then, perhaps after the third win he’ll be regarded as a great horse – who knows…
Come on K!
December 9, 2008 at 18:06 #195651Don’t get me wrong "K", Katchit is one of my favourite horses. Little terrier that he is. It is just that the form is only average compared to other Champion winners and he did not win much apart from the Champion.
Therefore I can not vote for him.

Value Is EverythingDecember 10, 2008 at 00:26 #195745Inglis Drever – although Denman’s victories were awesome, ID’s three in a row was/is magnificient and I thought he looked absolutely shattered when he came in – he had given everything.
December 12, 2008 at 00:13 #196272Inglis Drever for me, denman was awesome in the henessey & gold cup, but i can still picture the drever jumping the last to battle up the hill with everyone urging him home, great sights, sounds, atmosphere – LEGEND
December 14, 2008 at 22:25 #196928Inglis Drever’s Cheltenham victory was the highlight of my year. I lost my voice screaming him up the hill and to win a third World Hurdle, a feat that will prove very difficult to beat, was a great achievement.
However, taking into consideration the manner of his victory in the most anticipated match of the season, Denman gets my vote. An exemplary round of jumping in the AON chase was also a wonderful sight and it’s no surprise to see him running away with this prize, too.

Just a point Ginge in racing when you talk about the 2008 season that’s 2007/2008 and we are now in the 2009 season or 2008/2009.
I take it that’s the the same here………..someone please correct me if I am wrong.
Asking why VPU isn’t in it beats the hell out of me BTW horse won nothing except a race he was handed to him on a plate……I take it that was a joke.
Looking at the results so far it would suggest most think Denman is the best horse in the country which in a sense makes a mockery of the current ratings. His record is awesome with 13 out of 14 races ending in victory against MM 4 out of 6 one of which was this season.
I can’t say I blame you for voting for him as his victory in the QMCC was the best performance seen in years and he was more impressive in that than Denman was in the Gold Cup.I voted for Katchit myself who’s form last season doesn’t comapre to Denmans.
But this is not about overall form and and the point I’m making is to do with ratings not which horse was the HOTY.
December 17, 2008 at 15:24 #197613Would’ve agreed with you Fist that 08 means 07/08 had it not been for Kauto’s emission.
Despite his Betfair win and brilliant King George and Ascot chase victories, he was not on the list. Therefore I presumed we were talking about the year 08 only.

Value Is EverythingDecember 17, 2008 at 16:24 #197628Geez he’s not there!!! Tobe honest I had made my mind up on Katchit and never looked closely at the others.
I owe you an apology as well. I thought you were asking why VPU was not on the list……when you were asking the same question I would have..sorry about that.
David obviously had a rush of blood to the head when sticking him in
