ATR have been stating for weeks that the races would be "live" but when it’s come to the crunch we find out they are delayed 5 minutes again.
We bend over backwards for overseas punters by having 48 hour decs and reversing stall numbers for our racing but British punters are treated like dirt by these same overseas authorities.
Do we delay our pictures of our racing for the overseas market? If not, maybe we should start to do and does anyone know what the reason for the 5 minute delay is?

    To combat illegal betting.

Different price structure for those countries who operate their own pools on the race and those who won’t don’t.

Anyone who doesn’t operate pool has pictures delayed to try and stop unauthorised betting. If operating own pool or co mingling then no delay.

for the same "illegal betting" reason even the HKJC’s own free "live" internet radio feed is routinely delayed by around 25 seconds when measured against the "live, live" tv pictures within HK:

I’m probably being a bit dumb here (not unusual) but how does having a 5 min delay and even more so a 25 sec one combat illegal betting? Wouldn’t illegal bettors just complete their business by off time?

On the same basis do pictures of our big races such as the National & Derby get delayed similarly, I would suspect they would be likely to be subject to much more illegal betting in foreign countries than the Hong Kong races in Britain are.

They don’t know the exact off time.

Illegal gambling far more of an issue where Tote monopoly only legalised form of gambling and contributes such a high % of Government tax revenue.
