I take the point IS but aren’t a proportion of US races sent off
early!
August 10, 2010 at 15:26 #312049I’m gutted that Nicholls won’t be writing in the Post any more. His column was really insightful into his Saturday runners. The paper will be the poorer for its absence.
Oh, is this linked?
August 10, 2010 at 15:28 #312050They are indeed. Foreign tote money would be far more important to UK racing than it is in the US where a number of the tracks are propped up by Slot machines.
August 10, 2010 at 18:33 #312072In relation to Harry having tick with Betfair, has anyone else had contact from Betfair about such a facility? I had a phone call a few weeks ago from an account representative who explained that he would be in regular contact over the weeks and months ahead with details of special offers and such. Was chatting for a while and the subject got round to depositing with Betfair. Having used the credit card for a number of years the 1.5% transaction charge had cost me a reasonable sum. Spoke about the various ways of lodging monet to BF account and said I wouldnt use money transfer again as it took too long. BF agent said all I had to do if t/ferring cash across was to ring up the agent and have my account credited with the transfer to follow. He alluded to a ‘credit’ facility but never said in so many words.

you dont win much then
August 10, 2010 at 19:37 #312081I agree with the post by Fist, not to make light of winning 9mill or to talk Findley down in any way, but you would think this guy was won of the biggest gamblers in the world the way the press write about him.
A lot of successful gamblers have bet 3/4 sports and been net losers on maybe 2 of them and still been huge winners overall, there is nothing in that article, no offence to the original poster intended
yes but what makes it worse for me is that he plays up to it as if he is the big horse race punter/winner. He’s won loads with Bloom in other sports , not this one ,the only one that seems to care about him.Strange that!!
August 10, 2010 at 21:48 #312100The more this unravels the more confusing it gets. For those of us that can remember Robert Maxwell was also very aggresive when people tried to delve into his dealings.

Findlay has essentially realised that a) he’s not the ‘everybody knows him, everybody wants to be him’ character he thought he was, b) he’s not immune from investigation or indeed prosecution and c) potentially shady practices remain so whoever you are.
His shouting and bawling is merely a mask to protect a dented ego and a hide-in-plain-sight smokescreen to deflect attention from what was an unequivocal flouting of racing’s rules.
He may have all the answers to the sport’s financial problems, but I for one have no inclination to take the time to listen to him and continue to count down the days until he ***** off to Australia (if he does, of course – I’d be interested to know if he pressed the lay button by mistake in the ‘Will Big Gob Make It To Oz’ market).

I’m not sure thats the case, Findlay clearly admits that his "winning" is done on other sports as he has lost (I believe) in the region of £2.5 million betting on the horses.
There are lots of people far better horse racing punters than Harry Findlay.
What I found a bit distasteful and totally unnecessary was his derogatory remarks about Dave Nevison on the Sunday Forum.
I admire a lot of what Findlay says particularly regarding the clowns who run the sport and the Tote and the Levy but I can’t help thinking there’s an arrogance to the man which doesn’t help his wider appeal.
August 11, 2010 at 00:07 #312132Does anyone know why Findlay left Greyhound Racing?
I remember watching him go down the line at Belle Vue to back his own dog, (Marmions) one Saturday night in the final of a big event. His dog was 10/11. A chap my brother and I got talking to later told us that he was having seven grand with each joint.
Marmions finished second.
August 11, 2010 at 07:38 #312143thought the nickname, HARRY THE DOG , came from his love of greyhound racing.

what do you think of Harry? Barry? I like him, good character bit like your goodself.
August 11, 2010 at 11:33 #312178The dig at Dave Nevison was a very cheap shot. He basically derided Dave for working so hard. As far as I know Nevo has never been charged with any offence by the BHA, nor has there been any suspicions about him laying horses that he is connected with.
I think Dave will still be gracing the sport when Harry gets found out for what he does. Geln Gill and all!

That would be the 2% column in an ask the audience.

That is so clever I have not the faintest clue what you are saying. Maybe try again using different words

We can’t wait in Oz either for the biggest mug in punting to return for just one more time. No credit though.
