That really is a great shame

His King George performance was by far the best thing I’ve seen this season and will surely not be surpassed for a long time.
I genuinely think his race that day was as good as anything Zenyatta or Sea the Stars did last season.

August 8, 2010 at 23:23 #311786Why are connections waiting until later today (Monday) before making an ‘announcement’?
The operation went very well, his racing career is finished and he will go certainly go to stud.
What else is there to announce?
August 9, 2010 at 00:27 #311789Really appalling news. Im just glad that the horse will be ok, but its left a huge void in racing.
August 9, 2010 at 10:52 #311824Obviously gutted for
Harbinger
and connections but also for Gingertipster who had got stuck into him for the Arc.Bad news all round!

Any loss on my part insignificant when racing is the biggest loser. For the horse’s sake, hope there is no thought of keeping him in training.
At least we were lucky to witness one brilliant performance. Hope Harbinger gets a good place at Stud and we see his progeny excel as he did.
Value Is EverythingAugust 9, 2010 at 14:23 #311861Every racing fan will know that Harbinger always had the kryptonite in his hooves to become a champion one day and eventually proved that when won the King George. His injury really is a massive blow to racing but I do agree that he should go to stud.
I put Harbinger’s King George victory in the top 5 of my all-time favourite races on the Flat. It was a superlative performance and the best KG win I’ve ever seen without a shadow of a doubt.

Agree with Rob.
I’ve watched a few times since yesterday and it really is unbelievable. The speed he goes across the line was out of this world.
He’d have won over any distance that day.
Very sad.

Probably the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read on this site.
I’m gutted Harbinger had to retire because I couldn’t wait to see Fame & Glory destroy him in a race and then you could judge him against the great Sea the Stars.
Don’t know how he got that provisional rating he did. Did they learn nothing about overhyping a horse after 1 race!
August 9, 2010 at 23:18 #311933Well, you are jolly entitled to your opinion bhigg27.
I think Harbinger would have stuffed Fame and Glory – a horse that already has more to prove than Haringer (a way superior 142 Timeform rating).

August 10, 2010 at 00:10 #311940Why is everyone so obsessed with Timeform ratings?!
