For those who are interested, he is now in training with Godolphin and is entered in a 1m4f listed race at Goodwood next friday almost two years to the day since his last racecourse appearance, when half-length fourth in Sir Percy’s Derby.
June 1, 2008 at 00:31 #166122And should have won that Derby with a clear run to the post, no?
June 1, 2008 at 01:48 #166124Don’t remind me.
June 1, 2008 at 08:38 #166131He did get a clear run. He was ultimately a victim of his own inexperience/temperament.

I disagree. He was on the receiving end of a highly injudicious and over-aggressive ride from his jockey. Any horse, however experienced or equable of temperament, would have been entitled to veer off course as Hala Bek did. Dettori got a lot of criticism for his Breeders’ Cup ride on Swain whereas Robinson got virtually none for his on Hala Bek and I could never understand what the difference was between the two.

I’d appreciate it if you didn’t alter my direct quote thanks. What injury do you speak of that he suffered in the Derby? It certainly wasn’t the severe tendon one that has kept him off the track since as he was on target for the Irish Derby until scoping badly after a poor piece of work and I thin kit was linked to the throat problem that made him miss the Dante.
June 1, 2008 at 12:54 #166155I’ve had the same experience, DJ, on the Fleeting Spirit thread, where certain words from something I posted were quoted and picked out in bold to give them an emphasis I’d never intended.
Isn’t it possible to prevent this happening? If it’s not then as a matter of forum etiquette people should refrain from doing it.
June 1, 2008 at 17:14 #166169Would like to see hala bek build on the enormous potential he once looked to possess.

Given that he’s now with Godolphin I wouldn’t suggest you hold your breath mate.
June 1, 2008 at 17:49 #166174There is that Flash, but they havent been as bad this season as previous seasons and who knows, halabek did look like whole lot of horse at one point and a few runs could perhaps have him back to his best if he should avoid injury this time around.
June 1, 2008 at 17:53 #166175It would be nice to see Hala Bek fulfill his potential but it is asking almost the impossible IMO. He’s been off two years now, thats a hell of a long time to be out injured I can’t see the horse hitting Group 1 heights now.
I hope I’m wrong, however.
June 1, 2008 at 18:37 #166177Pity that Harry Findlay,Trevor Hemmings,David Johnson or Graham Wylie didnt snap him up
Would have been a nice hurdler, after all Wellbeing managed to bag a few after proving that his juice had no value in it
June 1, 2008 at 20:23 #166195There is little doubt that Hala Bek would have beaten Sir Percy, it was a shame that the jockey who is normally so calm and methodical unbalanced an already green horse at such a vital stage. What’s more of a shame is that he’s gone from one of the most efficient and classy operations in the country namely Michael Jarvis to the shambolic Godolphin team.
