If you can be disgruntled, why can’t you be gruntled?
This has been bothering me for years.

The more I know the less I understand.
September 4, 2023 at 20:45 #1661906Get with the program, RTB, for the purposes of this light-hearted Lounge thread gruntled is not a word.
“There is ironic and irony, so why can you have sardonic but not sardony?”
Extremely good point, CAS!
It’s just wrong!

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"September 4, 2023 at 21:12 #1661908To warm to my theme, discombobulated appears in the Urban Dictionary and I’m sure we’ve all heard it used.
But when was the last time – if ever – you heard someone describe themselves as combobulated?
Or recombobulated?
These could also be excellent names for Blackbeard (or even Little Big Bear) progeny – and don’t worry if you don’t like them much, they’re all highly unlikely to race beyond their juvenile season.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"September 4, 2023 at 22:24 #1661916I have variously been described as awful, deceitful and unkempt. I’d do something about it but I’ve never heard of anyone being awless, deceitless or kempt.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"September 4, 2023 at 22:37 #1661919Does it say something about us as a species that it’s often the negative versions of words that have survived?
September 5, 2023 at 07:23 #1661929There are lots of other examples:

I hadn’t thought of that!
Very possibly!
CAS has opened the floodgates with that link!

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"September 5, 2023 at 09:20 #1661935My first thought reading this was discombobulated ( I do love that word) and I was really surprised to read that combobulate was a word. I can’t think of a way to get it into daily conversation but then again I’d say I’m discombobulated for most of the time so it wouldn’t apply anyway.
September 18, 2023 at 22:11 #1663579For sure, Moehat is the Duchess Of Discombobulation.
