Let me first off admit that I am very excited to have joined a British-based racing forum that, in the long-term, will be committed to discussion about European racing as a whole (flat and jumps).
My name is Myles Deering – I am an eighteen year old horseman and journalist from Melbourne, Australia. Although I do reside from the antipodean state, my passion is for international racing and it is how I was able to enter the thoroughbred media industry over here.
The aim as a member of this forum is to widely improve my knowledge of the international racing scene – although I am confident of my current expertise and understanding of this particular scene, I’m a realist (and optimist at the same time) and know there is plenty to learn.
My favourite horse of all time is Dubai Millennium – my latest article in the Australian racing magazine "RacingXtra" is about that horse.
The best race of all time … who knows? Cannot be one. Arazi’s 1991 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, Lammtarra’s 1995 Derby, Dubai Millennium’s 2000 Prince of Wales’ Stakes, Unbridled Elaine’s 2001 Breeders’ Cup Distaff, War Chant’s 2000 Breeders’ Cup Mile. The list can, but will not go on

I hope to enjoy my experiences here. All the best and happy punting.
February 11, 2008 at 00:52 #142104Welcome to the forum mate, you forgot about dalakhani in the 2003 arc de triomphe, that was pretty impressive too
February 11, 2008 at 00:56 #142107There are too many to mention. Hey – I have Giant’s Causeway and Rock Of Gibraltar (Sussex Stks), Sinndar (Arc), Dancing Brave (Arc) on my wall. Dubai Millennium (QEII) to come.
February 11, 2008 at 00:59 #142109Welcome Myles,
Question for you,
Do Australian sprinters have an unfair advantage by being given steroids to aid their flight over to Britain?Value Is EverythingFebruary 11, 2008 at 01:04 #142110What about the Diva’s third Melbourne Cup, saw that live on TV over here? Pretty special.
I too have a pic of Dancing Brave on the wall winning the Arc (artist Mike Heslop). Was at Newmarket when he won the 2000 Guinees.
And at Goodwood for the Rock’s Sussex, did not beet much but the accelaration was awsome.Value Is EverythingFebruary 11, 2008 at 01:07 #142111Welcome to TRF Myles
Look forward to reading your thoughts on races like the Dubia World Cup, Kentucky Derby, Oaks etc,etc
February 11, 2008 at 01:10 #142112You have to realise something Gingertipster – the blood of the Foundation Sires can still be traced to a majority of horses in Europe whilst it is completely phased out in Australia. All our horses are simply bred for speed, speed, speed. Nothing else. It is why the Americans win the Dubai Golden Shaheen, and Australians win the King’s Stand/Golden Jubilee.
I am pretty sure that the first sire of horses in Australia, a South African import by the name of Rockingham, had quarter-horse blood in him. That’s not to say he did not have European blood either (he was of the Euro origin first).
The amount of steroids given to the Australian sprinters on their kangaroo route over to England are a particular type (I wish I knew the name) which are flushed out of the system pretty quickly post-flight. The drugs found in Takeover Target’s body which ruled him out of the Hong Kong Sprint are now banned in Australia as of February 1.
February 11, 2008 at 01:13 #142113Charlie D,
Is there a thread about the Dubai International Racing Carnival? I’m a little surprised that I cannot find one. Mick Channon’s first mounts were saddled up last week and John Balding saddled the first British winner on Friday night.
When does the British flat season begin? Last week of March?
February 11, 2008 at 01:21 #142115I think coolmore have brought the australian sire ENCOSTA DE LAGO over as a possible replacement for danehill. Cant remember if theyve brought over REDOUTES CHOICE. I know theyve definitely got CHOISIR here. Some smart sires there…
February 11, 2008 at 01:25 #142117Flat season officially starts towards the end of march, but to me it doesnt start till the Craven Meeting at newmarket in mid April as thats usually the first time you’ll see a nearly decent horse. Up until the craven its mostly horses of all weather quality running on muddy turf.
February 11, 2008 at 01:30 #142119Encosta De Lago had a stint in Ireland as a Coolmore shuttle but has returned to Australia. Incredibly … it was his return to Australia which brought the EI virus to our country!
Redoute’s Choice is probably the leading sire in Oz at this moment. However he is with Arrowfield Stud and wouldn’t expect him to leave for shuttle services anytime soon.
If you’re looking for a stallion to replace Danehill, then this past Saturday in Melbourne may deliver some answers. EXCEED AND EXCEL, a Group 1 winner and 7 furlong track record holder at Flemington sired both the winners of the Blue Diamond Stakes Preludes, one for C&G and the other for fillies. This is the leading juvenile race in Melbourne, and the second best juvenile race in Australia behind the Golden Slipper.
Wilander, a 2YO colt by Exceed And Excel and a half-brother to MAGNUS won the C&G race easily by 2 1/2 lengths from another horse who is by Exceed And Excel also.
Believe ‘n’ Succeed won the fillies easily as well from Sugar Babe, both by Exceed And Excel.
Choisir has not made any impact in Australia at this stage.
February 11, 2008 at 01:31 #142120Where do you live Bulwark? One of my aunties is in Carrickfergus.
February 11, 2008 at 01:38 #142122Is it the 17-alpha-hydroxy-progesterone hexanoate that has been banned? Believe it was that which Mr Janiak’s vet missed the muscule and injected the ligament instead. Clumsy!
I am not going to go on about it, greatly admire the Australian racing.
Was it Exceed And Exel that ran in the July Cup once or was he the one that came over and did not run?
Value Is EverythingFebruary 11, 2008 at 01:47 #142124Danehill influenced the globe. He will continue to do so with Exceed And Excel, Danehill Dancer, Rock Of Gibraltar, Desert King …
That he was still churning out winners like Dylan Thomas, Peeping Fawn, Duke Of Marmalade, Mountain High, Echelon, Simply Perfect and Darci Brahma last year reflects the incredible mark he continues to place on racing.
Shinzig (Danehill) won the Group 1 C.F. Orr Stakes over 7 furlongs this past Saturday, too.
February 11, 2008 at 01:49 #142125Am from Newtownards, not far from Carrick as the crow flies (have a few mates from there) but belfast lough is stuck in the middle, so its almost an hours drive through belfast. Am living in North Yorkshire at the minute though as thats where my job is…
February 11, 2008 at 01:56 #142126Choisir hasnt made a great impact over here yet either, which i found quite surprising as thought hed have been the type to have knock up a few decent 2yos. Perhaps hes just not had the best of mares.
February 11, 2008 at 02:29 #142132Can’t believe Coolmore would not patronise Choisir well for the first few years.
May be it has something to do with his temperament. Used to sweat and wore a pacifier. Had short legs but the most enormous back end. His dam and grand dam on the tail female line weren’t great. 3rd Dam was 4th in the Australian Oaks.Value Is Everything - AuthorPosts
