    Peter Cook on Parki

Parki to John Conteh ” is is true you dont have sex before a fight ”

    Cook ” No it’s during a fight ”

One of the best ad-libs ever , Conteh wasnt a shy guy get you could see he was out his comfort zone on there with Cook and Moore

    Gamble

Watch the two concerts. Believe me they are stunning. Also he makes humour and yet extraordinarly movingly about his addictions

The man had the sharpest mind of any comedian I can think of

His ad-libbing as the audience returns to its seats after a break is just sublime

I actually saw the other day that he was voted the best ever by rolling stone magazine too but I knew that anyway

Ta Clive I will take a gander.
I took the London train to Cardiff this morning to spend a good six hours in a shopping centre near the station. The Boots was large and I paced it out 350 feet. I sat in an impressive cafe in John Lewis with an atrium. Someone had left half a wrap om a plate – Cuss cuss and untouched so I enjoyed that guiltliy with my pot of darjeeling ( no milk) £2.25 – not bad. I took the 8.21 back and last station was Swindon.
To travel to Wales to sit in a shopping centre is a bit odd !

Watched Sterwart Lee when I was teenager and hated him, tried watching him again the other day after reading your guys comments and found him hilarious, very clever! Cheers for the recommendation chaps!

This is a strange but true one. I wasn’t a fan of Freddy Starr at all, but he was appearing at the Kings Theatre in Glasgow I think. I can’t even remember if I was going out with my now other half or we were married, but I grudgingly bought tickets. I wasn’t expecting this but I nearly wet myself and my face was aching with laughing. He was very funny at that point. Not so much later on, turned out to be a bit of a dick.

Connelly is still the funiest man I’ve ever seen live. He doesn’t have a format or a show to do, he has a few ideas beforehand but basically wings it. Very few people can do that, I think he’s a genius.

Bernard Manning gave a speech at a wedding my sister attended. He oozed confidence and was terribly funny without being terribly rude and the bride only once looked like a traffic light.

I always thought the tickling stick was a bit naff – Dodd made it sublime.

Great shout with Peter Cook and Dudley Moore, when I discovered Derek & Clive I couldn’t stop laughing, absolutely outrageous and literally decades before their time.

Tim Dillon is a new one who I like, American stand up who hosts a podcast and also regularly makes outrageous statements.

Mr Pastry and Charlie Drake haven’t found themselves quite good enough to be included.
Mr Pastry is buried in Tonbridge Kent.
Charlie is in a graveyard in Florida.

    Memories

They are and never were stand up comedians.

The real genius is being able to do the same routine over and over with a joke that would barely raise a smile from just about every other comedian.

Why is it that this is perfect?

Was he the greatest of them all ?

Blimey. Forces TV is showing the sitcom “Oh No It’s Selwyn Froggitt!” Never thought that would see the light of day again!

Tommy Cooper – What a genius!

How many entertainers were jealous of this swansong?

I also liked Ben Elton – Thought his “Man from Auntie” was very funny.
