When a snowball starts rolling, push it…
March 5, 2021 at 13:42 #1527200Thanks Louise for your observations on the tack used on Morgan. I immediately felt shock when I realised how severely restrained he was in that race and understand that trainers other than Elliott would be using some of it on certain horses if required but is it normal for so much of that gear to be used all at once on a horse?
@thehorsesmouth
Thanks thm appreciate your reply and agree we have to keep perspective on this and just concentrate on what we know to have been proved. Elliott and James must take whatever punishment is coming.
The fact an illegal bar was running at the Elliot yard is a real concern but can’t be doing with all the heresay and happy to say don’t do twitter and closed my facebook account years back.
People post far too much personal info on social media leaving themselves wide open to scammers and identity theft.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...March 5, 2021 at 14:15 #1527204I suppose it depends what you mean by ‘normal’, Triptych. Accepted, certainly. I often think it’s a lot to do with fashion, or people behaving like sheep. O’Brien does it, Mullins does it, other trainers look at it and think it must be worth doing, and then once you’ve done it you dare not take it off. There should be no one size fits all for horses, but the exceptions in these yards seem to be the horses without the gear – perhaps something very sensitive that won’t leave the yard with everything tied down (and who would blame it?) I imagine in yards where runners are future stallions, it’s better to stick the breathing aids on everything, and then nothing stands out, although that doesn’t apply to Elliott obviously.
March 5, 2021 at 14:24 #1527209In the interest of balance I just showed a trainer Jac’s earlier post re Morgan’s photo and the text with it criticising the tack, and asked for their opinion. They said it was nonsense and gave me a full explanation as to why it was entirely appropiate for the horse.
March 5, 2021 at 14:31 #1527210Well it depends what you call appropriate. I’m not really prepared to speculate on a particular horse, but excessive gear is a personal hate of mine. Feel free to ignore me/think of me as an idiot. I don’t confine the view to racing either.
March 5, 2021 at 15:08 #1527216That’s all fair comment DG I had no idea whether it was correct or not and just felt it sounded so horrific and Morgan looked so stressed had to post it up.
I guess it’s each to his own really and thanks to all for their enlightning views.
Certainly learnt a lot more about tack used on horses now and next time at the races, when we eventually get back, will pay more attention at the paddock.
Tongue ties, hoods and ear plugs are about my level of knowledge.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...March 5, 2021 at 16:00 #1527219Do we know how long the verdict is likely to take. Surely there isn’t really that much to discuss with the evidence, just his attempt at apologising to them…
March 5, 2021 at 16:04 #1527220Hearing is still ongoing, we may not be given full details today anyway
Sky News have a reporter outside and have been going over periodically, probably due again in the next half hour
March 5, 2021 at 16:13 #1527221Cheers DG
March 5, 2021 at 16:29 #1527226I hope its published sharpish when they’ve finished their brandy and sandwiches.

March 5, 2021 at 16:30 #1527227IHB have said they may suspend any announcement for a number of days
March 5, 2021 at 16:42 #1527228No surprise. Bloody useless.
BUY THE SUN
March 5, 2021 at 17:24 #1527232Doubt we will hear anything official today. Any ban comes into effect 14 days after it is announced, which coincides with the last day of Cheltenham. Surely he won’t turn up
March 5, 2021 at 17:40 #1527237There,s more chance of him walking on Mars than on Cheltenham racecourse …
March 5, 2021 at 17:40 #152723812 months suspension, last 6 of which are suspended, and a €15,000 fine.
