As a well as the expected fine, I’d like to see at least a 1 year ban for Elliott’s actions. Anything less, he has got off lightly in my opinion.

I think he will get a hefty fine and a one-year suspension of his licence, but it will not be made difficult for the licence to be transferred into the name of someone pretty close to home, he will sit in the background for 12 months then re-emerge, suitably chastened and humble.

And I think the BHA would go along with that and lift the UK ban on both his runners and the man himself, but I doubt he will be in a hurry to be seen on a racecourse for some considerable time.

He has lost respect within the industry, but he has not lost his ability to train racehorses and there will always be owners who will gravitate towards that.

Is there a prize for whoever has the closest guess or sumink?

    We’ll know soon enough.

No, they still haven’t got enough evidence on me for the disappearance of ‘Jilly’ – she may still be alive (doubtful) ;-)

Thanks for passing on those rather alarming observations from your friend Triptych

I’m one of the likely 99.9% of TRFs readership who haven’t a clue about the intricacies of horses’ headwear so it was enlightening

During one of the interminable, eternal debates on ‘the whip’ I do recall John Francome (on C4s Morning Line IIRC) pointing out that the discomfort/pain and fear caused by the more severe types of tackle is overlooked because to the untrained eye it isn’t so obvious as a flailing whip

Troubling, this pact with the devil we ‘who love the game’ choose to make isn’t it?

Exactly my thoughts when I received it Drone I’d never heard of any of that myself apart from the tongue tie and the hood which is often mentioned.

Can’t begin to imagine the pain he must have been in when he was asked to jump a fence. It certainly smacks of hidden agenda that some trainers can use these awful things and get away with it. The Spanish Inquisition could have learnt a thing or two from that evil concoction of tack.

O’Leary himself must have allowed that unless of course he didn’t care about the welfare of his horses. I would certainly have not let that anywhere near a horse of mine.

Does anyone know why Kings Dolly hasn’t raced since being punched by Davy Russell?

Not being antagonistic but just no good ? A mare too but no offspring listed yet, 4 years since last run.

In typically Irish fashion one of the people on the IHRB hearings Committee is Judge Leonie Reynolds, a sister of Phillip Reynolds the owner of Presenting Percy.

The fact that Elliot was running a fully operational illegal bar in his premises seems to have gone totally under the radar too.

King’s Dolly has a 2020 foal by Workforce, presume she is back with her owner-breeder

Update – on to their second crate of Guiness and having a merry old craic. Pool table apparently sloping a bit, which is causing a few issues.

Re: Triptych’s post, there was a programme on TG4 here about the Irish National, and what stood out to me was the lack of equipment on horses. The only thing to point out is that the grackle, tongue tie and ring bit combination is not confined to Elliott. You could be talking about a Ballydoyle or Mullins horse too. Hoods are supposed to dim the noise/calm the horse, and shouldn’t be a bad thing, but I’m sure the horse itself would prefer as little on its head as possible.

Edit to say: ‘what stood out to me from older Nationals was the lack of equipment’

O’Leary himself must have allowed that unless of course he didn’t care about the welfare of his horses. I would certainly have not let that anywhere near a horse of mine.

It’s almost certain O’Leary wasn’t even at the racecourse that day, and if he was, would he have noticed the tack? O’Leary gives people plenty of legitimate reasons to have a go but it seems highly unlikely O’Leary gives his trainers instructions on what tack to use.

On a related note (and not aimed at you Triptych) I see elsewhere on this thread someone said O’Leary was probably in the WhatsApp group the photo got sent around to and would have ‘joined in on the fun’. We have also had the comparison of what Elliott has done with child abuse. Most of the contributions on this thread have been well thought out and you can see the majority are have the good of racing at heart but comments such as those don’t help.

What Elliott did as an act in itself is nowhere near as bad compared with what went on with Viking Hoard at Tramore. A heavily sedated horse was sent out on a racecourse at a risk to the horse’s life, the jockey as well as the others in the race. Will the UK authorities prevent Charles Byrnes from having runners across the water when he returns from his six month ban? I doubt it. The rumored Labaik incident would be a far worse act as well if it is true. The problem is the image of what he did will always be there, racings detractors could not have asked for a bigger stick to beat racing with. How do you quantify the damage in terms of a punishment (length of ban), I don’t know.

The fact that Elliot was running a fully operational illegal bar in his premises seems to have gone totally under the radar too.

If I remember correctly Elliott and a number of his staff had Covid over the Christmas period? I too am surprised this hasn’t been mentioned. Give the current mood in the country it wouldn’t go down at all well if this broke in the media.
