Through those gritted teeth she’s saying "ok grandad – one picture and you promise to stop stalking me?"

August 26, 2011 at 20:46 #369294It’s going to be difficult this weekend I think. So much rain about and try as I might I can’t find an edge in the big one at Goodwood.
Poets Voice SHOULD win but I don’t trust the trainer to have him fit enough to win on what is likely to be very testing ground. I think Dubawi Gold was massively flattered to finish second in the English Guineas and I don’t rate the form of the Irish one. He should be suited by the ground and will be better for his Newbury run but I am not even sure he is a proper miler and again could find things difficult in these conditions. Beacon Lodge would be an obvious each way bet if there were 8 runners and also likes a bit of give. If the fav doesnt run his race it could just be this one’s day. Premio Loco would be interesting if it were drier and the rest should not be good enough. All in all a race to leave alone.
I’ll probably keep my powder quite dry but 2 horses I quite like at the prices are
Specific Gravity
at 10-1 in the 3.05 at Beverley and
Monsieur Chevalier
at 9-4 at Newmarket.
Specific Gravity is better than his form figures and will appreciate the ground as will MC who is also by far the best horse in the race and should be much shorter imo.
I am looking forward to the Group 3 at Windsor as well as I like both Dux Scholar and Principal Role but, again, doubts about the ground would put me off a bet.

August 26, 2011 at 21:39 #369303A bit of Divine inspiration for tomorrow by the 2nd best band in the world!
August 26, 2011 at 21:50 #369304I was at Nottingham last year when
Specific Gravity
won over a mile on soft ground and i made a note of him as a horse to watch for this year when ground permits.Today he has his ground,he’s trained by the maestro and owned by one of my old time favourites,Stavros Niarchos,i have taken the 120’s on the machine and have an e/w interest with Stan James.
Specific Gravity
£25 e/w 66/1 Stan James,5,0pm Ascot
Joni,i must agree with you there regarding
Specific Gravity
,i have managed to snaffle 8/1 for tomorrows Beverley race and can see him becoming a proper ‘Cambridgeshire’ sort after it!
Specific Gravity
£150 e/w 8/1 Bet365, Beverley 3,05pm tomorrow.
£2600

Poets Voice did me two great favours last year in this race and QEII, but want to be against him tomorrow. Can pull hard and could be too fresh first time up after a break. SBS has said he’ll come on for it too.
Emerald Commander is in there to set the pace, does have some decent soft ground form himself but disappointed last time despite looking in top shape at Salisbury.
Agree about Premio Loco being a top-of-the-ground animal, even though a more strongly run contest should suit. Also saw him at Salisbury and age seems to be creeping up on him, with a slightly dipped back.Dubawi Gold
is interesting, but although has form on a soft surface, improvement this term has come on a sound surface. Will he stay a truly run mile on the ground? Wasn’t expecting the Hannon horse to be as big as 5/1 though. Might save on him
Riggins doesn’t look up to this.Beacon Lodge
is in form, from a stable in form and acts on a soft surface. But is he good enough to win in this grade? Normally I’d say not, but with question marks about the others I’d go along with him @ 5’s.
Also backedSet The Trend
at a big 16/1. Progressive, has Goodwood form and it might suit to race prominently on rain softened ground tomorrow.
EDIT: Now put a saver on Dubawi Gold @ 5’s

Won this easily last year, loves soft ground.
Oppose him at your peril.August 28, 2011 at 20:09 #369406Poets Voice did me two great favours last year in this race and QEII, but want to be against him tomorrow. Can pull hard and could be too fresh first time up after a break. SBS has said he’ll come on for it too.

Value Is EverythingAugust 28, 2011 at 20:32 #369408Good analysis that Ginge. 2 lessons I learned from the weekend – 1) stick to what you know (I am clueless when it comes to sprints) 2) back anything that has good form with Frankel. The 3 year old milers are far superior to their elders and they are a vintage crop this year. Frankel, Excelebration, Strong Suit, Immortal Verse, Dubawi Gold. Have been backing them all year but left this one alone

Wasn’t Dubawi Gold ‘flattered’ by his 2nd in the Guineas?
Poet’s Voice clearly ran well below form (far from the first for that particular stable), but opposing his type on a wing and a prayer remains a quick way to the poorhouse, imo.August 28, 2011 at 23:58 #369418That’s right Reet, Dubawi Gold was flattered in the Guineas, doesn’t mean he can’t win a Group 2 easily though.

Only a fool would have backed him first time out for that trainer.
I still think he was flattered in the Guineas as his St James and Hungerford runs showed. Saturday’s race was very low on quality.
