If there is one thing that you choose to believe from what I say in 2011, make it this, for your sake. You will lose money if you continue to back this year’s 3yos against the older horses.
Hope you enjoying your trip Zark!

You make a habit of rubbing people’s noses in it? Jesus, just be dignified in victory. Big deal, wrong about something. Not the first time & won’t be the last. In the context of things, is it such a big deal? Does it really require all this gloating? You made a 50-50 call correctly. I don my hat to you.
I already stated a couple of pages ago that I was wrong about the milers & sprinters anyway, clearly they’re better, but I refuse to accept the middle-distance horses are any good. You’re using Treasure Beach’s win as an example that they are good? European 1-2 in the Secretariat, European winner in the Arlington & European 1-2-4 in the Beverley D. You could send a handicapper over there and he’d win a Grade 1 turf race.
Anyway…5EW double & 10 double with Stacelita & Cape Blanco, 10EW double Excelebration (thanks, you swayed it for me) and Nordic Sky – 310 profit. Pays for well over a month’s food

Just need Sharayeen to make the cut & if he doesn’t, hope that Blissful Moment wins. Bourne won’t make the cut so I’ll get my dough back from that bet.
August 16, 2011 at 11:51 #368257You are quite right and I apologise. It’s just that you were so vociferous in your arguement and I was in mine. Very childish of me though I accept!!!
Hope you having a good time x

August 16, 2011 at 20:42 #368311The Yorkshire Oaks looks a cracking race doesnt it?
The first 4 in the Irish Oaks reoppose, there is last years Oaks winner plus a multiple group winner in Crystal Capella.
I dont think any of them will win!
Of the 4 Irish Oaks horses I can’t see any result other than Blue Bunting coming out on top again. On the ground at the Curragh he looked very much the best horse and it is likely that conditions will be similar on Thursday. I added Wonder of Wonders to my TTTF last month and if conditions dried dramatically I think she would come back into it but she DOES seem to need a quicker surface to be seen at her best.
Snow Fairy looks to be returning to something like her best but, again, connections are not happy about the ground. She won the Irish Oaks on an easy surface but that was probably the worst classic for many years and her previous form on soft ground was awful. Again, if it dries, her chance will improve enormously.
Crystal Capella is an admirable filly who WILL like the ground but her record in Group 1’s reads 5, 10, 4. Hardly justifies her price in what looks a vert strong race.
I have had a bit of each way fun with
Vita Nova
. This horse would have won the Lancashire Oaks on the bridal but for a shocking bit of luck and whilst even that form needs improving on she is a much better horse on an easier surface. She is a big strong filly who has improved with every race and the stable have her right up there with the best ones in the yard. She has the beating of Crystal Capella on their run at the start of the season and at 7-1 is much better value in my opinion.

I can’t believe Banimpire is twice the price of Blue Bunting
One could argue that it took a while for Blue Bunting to get going at the Curragh and she would have won cosily had shebeen allowed to go sooner, However, I am of the strong opinion that if she had got to Banimpire any sooner, the Bolger filly would have fought her off, like she did Wonder Of Wonders and Laughing Lashes. Her will to win is second to none and I am finding it difficult to see her out of the frame. She’s a model of consistency and (apart from seeming to hang a bit last time at the Curragh) is quite straightforward, usually travels well and quickens, stays, handles most ground, wouldn’t you love to own her!August 16, 2011 at 22:30 #368323Its rides like this that make you realise
Hayley Turner
has balls of steel!

I could name half a dozen male jockeys who wouldn’t go through a gap like that!

August 17, 2011 at 16:49 #368394Is it me or is Await The Dawn way too short for next week’s Juddmonte? 11-10 is ridiculous about a horse having his first race in Group 1 company. With worries over trip and ground and up against proven Group 1 winnners I have gone with Midday and Twice Over. Owner determined to win this race and this will be his year I think.
Zark won’t like me gloating but I am on a bit of a streak at the mo!! The perfect race and two of my fav horses battling it out! I honestly couldnt have cared which one won but am kind of pleased it was dear old Twice Over!

August 17, 2011 at 17:53 #368404Have you got your own tipping thread Joni? Be interesting to see your over all record. I too backed the Cecil pair in the end, but chose the "wrong" one for the main bet.
Value Is EverythingAugust 17, 2011 at 19:21 #368411I have a thread on Betfair Ginge but havent written on it since just before my holiday 3 weeks ago. I was always a fan of TAPK so that’s why I post on here and he is kind enough to let me do so.
I stick to Group and listed races on the whole where form can generally be relied upon and I am a flat man – rarely bet on the jumps anymore.
I watch the races on video time and time again like most punters and am a huge fan of Sir Hen so very often if he is doing well I am also!
I am sure you will see plenty of poor posts from me down the line but, as the great man says, confidence is king and mine is high at the moment!
A big Cecil double for me tomorrow btw – Vita Nova and Wild Coco (banker)!!

August 17, 2011 at 21:53 #368434Nothing wrong with a little confidence Jon! Was with you today on the Cecil pair, was a very satisfying race for fans of Henry’s.
On Vita Nova and Wild Coco tomorrow as well (amongst others!).
Not all went to plan today however, underestimated Sea Moon badly, thought Seville would finally get his head in front but have come to the conclusion he’s just short of the top drawer. He won’t be seeing my money again that’s for sure!
What do you reckon KF? Time to give up on Seville?
August 17, 2011 at 22:51 #368435A decent clip and an extra 2 1/2 furlongs and you’ll see a different animal. Usual farcical Ballydoyle pacemaking today. In both big races.
Joni, I tipped and backed Twice Over too
August 18, 2011 at 08:33 #368449I did spot that Zark – nice one!

August 18, 2011 at 13:15 #3685095 at 8s, 5 at 11/2. Almost 9 days food there. Also I get back 150 from Sharayeen and Bourne not making the cut
I’m getting on Wild Coco as per your recommendation but not sure what to EW double up with. Angels Will Fall/Hello Glory or Blue Bunting/Vita Nova…might just leave it. Not doing anything after today anyway bar possibly Burwaaz tomorrow, never been a big fan of the Ebor meet.August 19, 2011 at 02:24 #368576Hi all,
Just thought i’d pop my head in the door.
I took a month off, didn’t touch a single nag, and returned with Zarkava’s posts ringing in my ears – so i’ve been shrewd and looked out for 2-3yo newcomer-improvers… and after two wins and a place on
Cry Fury
,
Sunday Times
and
Fruehling
respectively at Goodwood in one day, i realised that i had found something i’m good at, and i’m sticking to it. After another break, I’ve been dipping in and out of the cards – i felt Sea Moon would win the Voltigeur but i kept off – and this eventually culminated in me taking the plunge and coming back up with a win for
Best Terms
at York yesterday. I got him the night before at 7s but he went off at 12s in places. I thought i’d post as i feel i must repay this board’s users for all the advice i got at the start of July – thank you all. I’m lurking!
I still have a massive bet outstanding on
Seville
for the St. Leger, but the last ghost from my, ahem, ‘glory days’ of betting big isn’t looking too great after Sea Moon’s last run. I haven’t seen that winning instinct from him as a 3yo and it has me worried. He’s there or thereabouts but is beginning to look like a perennial underachiever, and it seems the faith is starting to wane in some camps.
Nothing sticks out for me tomorrow – no bets. I was looking at the Gimcrack too but it’s too tight to call.
Reply
may have a chance but O’Brien runners haven’t been looking too good this week, so i’d have to say
Burwaaz
.
August 19, 2011 at 06:49 #368579Great to hear from you JW and really pleased that you have got yourself sorted! It’s a wonderful game but it can bite you if your not careful and clever!!

August 19, 2011 at 17:11 #368625I called
Green Destiny
prior to the off but didn’t put any money down. Win. My mother, of all people, picked
Margot Did
because she would "bet on anything Haley was riding," no bet made. Win. I went with
Rugged Cross
for the 4.15, no bet made. Win.
Forget about the money, it’s just satisfying knowing you’re making the right calls. 5s, 18s and 20s though, eep! Any similar stories of holding off on big odds only to see your pick go past the post in front? You guys are full of great stories.
