He just won the second race at Aintree but landed very badly at the last.
He was ridden out to the line and then pulled up and Paul Townend jumped off.
Now confirmed to have been put to sleep by the Racing Post.
RIP Gold Dancer.
April 10, 2026 at 14:48 #1762713Such a shame but, unlike some, I’m not apportioning any blame to Townend here. Horses make mistakes all the time – should every horse that does so be pulled up immediately as a precautionary measure?
April 10, 2026 at 14:49 #1762715A Pyrrhic victory if ever there was one…..
April 10, 2026 at 14:54 #1762729“I feel very uneasy about this one that he should’ve been pulled up after the last”.
I think we have to be realistic. Would any jockey with a licence have pulled up in those circumstances?
It is a very sad and unfortunate situation which could have happened at Plumpton on a wet Monday. Unfortunately it happened at Aintree live on ITV.
Maybe it would be best if connections don’t take the prize money and donate it to racing charities instead.
RIP Gold Dancer.

Couldn’t agree more. Just try to limit the damage a bit.
April 10, 2026 at 15:09 #1762757So my comment regarding the awful loss of Gold Dancer has been removed, that disappoints me. I love racing & have done for over 50yrs so I have enough knowledge to know that was a terrible situation. It is very similar to a recent ride by Harry Skelton on the late mare Yummy. I truly hope that I never see another 😥
April 10, 2026 at 15:24 #1762767RIP brave GOLD DANCER – you were truly a GOLDEN boy …
April 10, 2026 at 17:10 #1762812Well the stewards have issued a report following interviewing Paul T; a vet (or representative? I missed the intro) has been interviewed on Racing TV as has Willie Mullins … all food for thought …
April 10, 2026 at 18:45 #1762836Only just seen this on the news and I’m devastated by what has happened to poor Gold Dancer
I haven’t been watching any of the races this week only the NH flat bumpers but I did catch a glance of Impaire Et Passe’s lass crying after his fall yesterday. I was happy to learn later that they were tears of joy and that he was ok but now they have sadly lost Gold Dancer.😪These beautiful soles mean the world to those who care for them and thoughts are with them all at this sad time.
RIP Brave boy 🌹 Gold Dancer
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...April 10, 2026 at 20:27 #1762867Yes Jac. Fair play to ITV cameras for capturing Impaire Et Passe’s groom’s joy at leading him back. A touching moment in a grim day.
April 10, 2026 at 20:29 #1762868Just gutting.
