Is it my imagination?

Watching today’s Epsom races has reminded me of one of my theories.
I’ve noticed over the years how: When there’s been rain on watered ground it seems to favour prominent horses – whatever the pace. Do hold up horses seem to struggle for a turn of foot? Or is there some other reason?Anyone know of any statistics that might prove or even disprove this?
Anyone else had the same idea?Value Is EverythingJune 6, 2025 at 20:17 #1732186Interesting theory, there do seem to be certain meetings where front or prominent runners can’t be pegged back.
In terms of analysing, the difficulty would be finding out which meetings had been watered prior to rain, not impossible (assuming watering and rainfall detail is available) but not readily available in easy to analyse format so would be a grind.June 7, 2025 at 13:16 #1732369Another front runner wins at Epsom, with the second being in that position throughout too.
