Is it just me or with this global domination idea (no one told AOB!) are they just sacrificing quality for quantity and turning into just another stable based at Newmarket?

July 22, 2008 at 09:45 #174132Yes – in global terms – "Your’e just a small yard near Ballydoyle"

They are turning into something of an embarrassment. The length of time that their expensive purchases typically spend on the sidelines with injuries is remarkable. They must be starting to question their training methods?
July 22, 2008 at 10:42 #174142They have recently had a pretty lean time of it and their modus operandi of buying seemingly very good horses out of other yards is not really working out. I think they need a re-think.
July 22, 2008 at 10:56 #174143They seem to have a "pretty lean time of it" every season though. They hardly ever unveil quality two year-olds (last season perhaps an exception) and they just let other people do the donkey (an apt word perhaps) work before buying their star horses – and then turning them into flops

Thank you. Long time lurking, decided to post to see if I had any views that anyone else actually agreed with!
July 22, 2008 at 18:11 #174246They have had a few excellent years but all in all the operation has been a monumental failure considering the vast resources put into it. If Sheikh Mohammed turned back the clock, sent his best yearlings once again to Stoute and Cecil and Cumani and had them running in maroon and white the glory years would soon return.

July 22, 2008 at 18:35 #174253Thanks this venue seems a lot more civilised than betfair.
I’m wondering is this the first year since about 1976 that the maroon and white will not feature in european horse racing at all. Has SM stopped sending horses to Mick Channon, Mark Johnston, Andre Fabre and John Oxx now as well. Bin Suroor must have an enormous string of two year olds.

If you check on their website it lists their horses but only includes around 8 2 year olds. This presumably because the majority were unnamed at the time. You only have to look at their entries on the RP website to see that they have them entered up all over the place, indeed much more than Cecil, Stoute, Cumani, Gosden and other top Newmarket trainers. You would never seen them running 2 year olds at the likes of Thirsk, Warwick, Catterick etc…a few years ago.
July 23, 2008 at 20:32 #174485Stone me, they just had a winner !
Came out the stalls okay, pushed into a stride, nicely settled and travelled well, when push come to shove didn’t look interested then downed tools but responded and fought back nicely to take it on the line – well, that’s the way it looked to me.
I was thinking earlier about their woeful form.
October 12, 2008 at 21:53 #184474Come back with a real bang these last few days haven’t they?
October 12, 2008 at 22:17 #184480They always do for these end of season minor events at second/third division tracks.
October 12, 2008 at 22:17 #184481Certainly have. They are making a mockery of these small-field conditions races.
Godolphin – the stable whose season starts once the Arc is run.

Don’t tell everyone, David

Well, it takes a good few months’ worth of careful nurturing and prep runs to be able to master the collective might of Bruce Hellier, Colin Teague and Donal Nolan in these races, you know.

October 12, 2008 at 22:32 #184484I couldn’t care less about the quality of the races they’re winning!
From a punting perspective, at the moment you know their horses are in fine form and worth backing.
A winnner’s a winner whether it be in the Arc or in a class 3 conditions race at Bath on a Sunday afternoon.
