I’ve been waiting 599 days for this.
Librettist has had a bit of leg trouble which kept him off the track last season. Before that, I thought he was a G1 winner in the making on decent ground and I shall be having a few shekels on him. If anyone wants to lay me a bit of 3/1 i’ll more than happily take it!
June 7, 2006 at 16:17 #73063Look like you were half-right DJ. Iceman was overbet but the opposite was true of Librettist. Over 5 on betfair was a ridiculous price but thanks all the same!
Lets hope his legs stay sound now (incidentally he’s entered in the Sussex).
August 17, 2006 at 15:26 #2887I see Belenus has just continued Godolphin’s amazing run. Did anyone manage to see it?
They really are on fire at the moment and if the miracle of their 2 year olds appearing and turning out to be talented actually happened, what chance Frankie running Ryan moore close?! Stranger things have happened… ;)
August 17, 2006 at 15:42 #75493and that’s assuming there will be no more jockeys stood down for varying allegements of shenanigans…<br>
August 17, 2006 at 16:16 #75494Frankie was 200/1 on Betfair last time I checked!
August 17, 2006 at 16:21 #75495Godolphin’s fortunes have picked up after a dismal start to the season.<br>Many will rave over their strike rate but IMO many of their horses were fully entitled to win races where they appeared in a higher class to the opposition.<br>Also winning late summer and autumn UK Group 1s will prove more difficult than last weekend’s exploits in Europe.<br>Their 2 year olds have also yet to be sighted.<br>Ryan Moore is champion jockey- Dettori won’t be seen doubling up at the smaller meetings
August 17, 2006 at 21:07 #75496Agree with Lingfield….Belenus won today but was fully entitled to…but genuine Group 1 horse? I think not.
October 3, 2006 at 21:27 #3097Although i have the greatest respect for the Godolphin<br>stable as far as betting goes find it very hard to assess many of their runners – seems many can come from long lay off and canter in – other times very strong favourites get badly turned over for no apparent reason- im sure if i just bet blind on all their runners would probably come out on top – i find it all a mystery and wonder if anyone else feels same way ?
October 4, 2006 at 02:37 #78639The thing I find with some of their runners is that they are often running over the wrong trip (well, in my amateurish opinion anyway). An example of this is running today at Nottingham. I would name the horse but if I did I will probably end up with egg on my boat race as it scoots in by five lengths so for arguments sake lets call this harse ‘Dahman’:cheesy:
October 4, 2006 at 05:21 #78640They seem to have very few horses which remain consistently fit and sound. Maybe this is mostly really bad luck or a function of a flaw in their training approach/regime. For whatever reason they seem to ‘have’ lots of horses in their ownership but produce relatively few runners each year.
Lots of horses which have run for them in recent weeks are horses which have shown (or at least hinted at having) a great deal of ability, but have been off for 12 months or more. By their very nature, these will vary in terms of how easy they are to get fit without a race and how serious their injuries/problems were (physically and mentally). I think this has probably accentuated the apparent inconsistency of the operation this summer.
That said, they have been horribly in and out lately, haven’t they?  ;) ÂÂÂ

October 4, 2006 at 06:25 #78641They just dont have the class the once had – and as long as they continue with the current breeding program the bad run will carry on. Much better idea to concentrate on the 2nd string. If you followed only McEvoy rides for Godolphin you’d be up £24.76. Frankie is -£18.
October 4, 2006 at 06:39 #78642Well these figures speak for themselves.
Derby 2007 Entries
Aidan O’Brien – 28 entries (4 ‘DOUBTFUL’)
Saeed Bin Suroor – 3 entries (2 ‘DOUBTFUL’)
Like Trackside said to me yesterday, in all fairness, they do have hundreds of other entries……..they are just all currently in the care of other trainers :cheesy:

How do these figures speak for themselves, please?
October 4, 2006 at 08:30 #78644Should be interesting to see Aidan run 24 runners in next years derby :o
October 4, 2006 at 08:34 #78645I feel part of the problem with Godolphin is that the horses seem to be trained by committee.
It would be difficult for any established trainer to go there and then find that his wishes have to be rubber-stamped by ‘the owner’ before he can do anything.
I accept the argument that the owner pays the bills and should have some input but I feel that Sheikh Mo is a bit more hands on than most trainers would appreciate.

October 4, 2006 at 10:31 #78646A number of the O’Brien horses will be Group 2 or 3 class horses – i’m pretty sure Godolphin could have run something to beat Mountain or in previous years Meath etc but they don’t they want to win the race.
Ballydoyle, well at least the market’s suggest that Ballydoyle haven’t a clue who their number one Derby horse is and that’s reflected on the day.

Those figures would speak for themselves if they were not a touch misleading. If you go back to those Derby entries on the RP website there are loads more that are owned by Godolphin but are listed as having an ‘unknown’ trainer.
