Afrashad’s in at Monmouth tommorow night, 7th race 6f on dirt.
May 28, 2006 at 18:22 #72315If Godolphin had drawn a blank all season, would the seven stars comp be a multiple dead heat?
That’s 22 races, not including the 3 next weekend.
May 28, 2006 at 19:57 #72317Runs tommorow night TS ;)
May 28, 2006 at 20:28 #72318For all they are struggling, that 5/1 with Bet365 looks a terrible price considering some of the older horses they are still keeping under wraps.
May 28, 2006 at 20:53 #72319If that 5/1 was still available after Royal Ascot I’d take B365’s hand off!
May 28, 2006 at 21:07 #72320Can’t see Shawanda being much of a price in something like the Yorkshire Oaks or possibly even the Nassau. Similarly I’ll be most shocked if Proclamation isn’t successful in a British Group 1.
May 29, 2006 at 06:41 #72321Latest odds for the month in which Godolphin break their British Group 1 duck for the season are:-
Evens June (includes Royal Ascot)
8 July
4 August
7 Sept
20 Oct
5 Remain winless
Obviously they have horses like Proclamation and Electocutionist earmarked for Royal Ascot if the horses have come right by then.
May 29, 2006 at 16:03 #72322Very slow start for the BIB, only highlight so far is Discreet Cat, I reckon things will pick up soon though, do they have any of Dubai Millennium’s offspring which are still unraced?
May 29, 2006 at 17:05 #72323Don’t think so mate. They have still kept a few of them in training as 4yo’s the most lightly raced of which is Descartes (1 run – 1 win)
June 6, 2006 at 11:19 #2750Librettist runs in a Conditions event at Nottingham on Wednesday. Godolphin seem to use Nottingham quite a bit for preparing horses for bigger things. Interesting choice for their return given that Librettist hasn’t run since the Dewhurst in October 2004. The opposition doesn’t look up to much although Alfie Flits may be a bit better than a bumper horse. If Librettist flops they would appear to be in real difficulty.
June 6, 2006 at 11:50 #73056In fairness, Librettist may not be a good horse to judge the overall wellbeing of Godolphin horses on. It has been absent for 600 days and has obviously had problems.
Tomorrow’s opposition includes Iceman from the Gosden stable which was outclassed / injured in a Guineas last time and has a 400 day absence to overcome, the h’capper My Paris from the in form Ryan yard plus good bumper horse turned recent flat winner Alfie Flitts. The latter must give Librettist 4lb.
Godolphin need to make some decisions before Royal Ascot
June 6, 2006 at 14:01 #73057Iceman and Librettist are 2 seriously promising horses for the rest of the season. It wouldnt surprise me if both challenged for (near) top group homours as the season progresses.
June 6, 2006 at 14:19 #73058They both look like problem horses to me that will be overbet because of connections.
June 6, 2006 at 14:27 #73059Hopefully, i’ll be backing Alfie……
June 6, 2006 at 14:27 #73060Heard favourable reports of Iceman, although Gosden’s stable doesn’t seem to be firing at the minute.
June 6, 2006 at 15:36 #73061In general isn’t Gosden overrated as a trainer. Considering the backing he has from the Maktoums and Khaled Abdulla among some of his patrons, isn’t a single classic a rather poor return. Isn’t as if he’s banging in other Group 1 winners year after year either really.
