Good to soft …. Heavy to quicksand by 3.30 going by what I saw on tv , I’ve see heavy at Ayr and Carlisle …up North , but that was grim yesterday

To be honest this debate is not a hill I am willing to die on due to my lack of in-depth knowledge when it comes to the effects of rain on soil  so maybe we’ll never get to the bottom of it.

I just felt a touch bad for the clerk after reading some of the abuse he was receiving online (and don’t worry, I don’t mean on this forum), from people who most likely hadn’t visited the track any time recently. It’s easy for people to say “clerk must be having us on, ground can’t go from g/s to heavy/unraceable, when maybe in fact, given a very peculiar set of circumstances, it is indeed possible.

However, like I said, I’m no expert on ground, just wanted to do my best Ginger impression and give a bit of balance to the argument.

But I’m glad I was of assistance last week, I sure as hell didn’t win any money on my bets lol but hopefully it at least helped some of you lose a little less than you otherwise would have ;-)

I read on social media that, between 22nd and 26th July, 54mm was put on the track in artificial irrigation.

IF that is true, that would be my chief criticism of the CoC.

But he’s hardly the only one doing it – all this watering means tracks can’t take rain the way they used to.

I can remember Firm ground – that’s Firm, not Good to Firm – at Glorious Goodwood and Willie Carson coming back in after winning on something by Morston and saying his progeny like proper Firm ground.

If they’d had the weather back then that we had this week, I reckon it would have got Soft at worst and certainly not beyond Heavy and abandoned.

Not going related, but Goodwood related, here are some videos I took over this Bank Holiday weekends meeting for anyone interested! I also had a really cool experience today, my boss let me in with her to the middle of the parade ring pre-race, was surreal being amongst all of the trainers/jockeys/owners, very fun indeed being amongst all of the proper horsey people hearing the conversations you always wished you could hear on tv.

Anyway, here are the videos, sadly none from the parade ring though as I wanted to be professional!

Thanks Ben. It’s a lovely looking spot.
Nice and steady on the camera when the horse was messing about :good:
