He still might not have been good enough on the day but poor race reading by Levey/Hannon
I think they might have gone forward as how Haydock raced last time and he was too far back.

June 8, 2024 at 16:49 #1697377I expect it was something to do with going back in trip, afraid they wouldn’t have the pace coming from so far back… And Drawn 1 wanting to “take advantage” of the draw. Maybe he was also faster away than normal… But yes, this surely wasn’t the race to change tactics.
Winner and second were in the last 3 early.

========================================================Value Is EverythingJune 8, 2024 at 17:55 #1697390^ Feel a bit of a fraud today, as I only won just over £1 on Believing’s race.
Although some days I win more than on here, so it works both ways.Value Is EverythingJune 8, 2024 at 23:30 #1697436Well done on being honest. It’s left me a bit confused though as I have always assumed that the above are your actual bets. How did you end up winning £1?
June 9, 2024 at 11:41 #1697452Laid back the profit on believing to make him a saver you would assume stilvi
Good luck with the thread ginge, just had a look through
June 9, 2024 at 13:29 #1697456No Stilvi, these are my advice at the time of writing – when those prices quoted are actually available.
…And if I put a bet up quoting a betfair price the amount of stake must also be available. So say I personally have backed something @ 9 on betfair… if the price on betfair has gone down (or up) I will quote the available odds at the time I press Submit… Or if 9 is available, for me to put up a bet of say £50 @ 9 then AT LEAST £50 needs to be available at the time I press “submit”. ie imo Saying £50 @ 9 would be unfair if only £3 is available. In other words… at least one of my “followers” needs to be able to take the exact bet I put up at the time I press submit.
ie In the space of time between having my own bets and putting them up on here the price and amount available might change… Sometimes I’ll need to wait a considerable time before I am able to put up a bet due to price or liquidity… And sometimes it will mean the bet is no longer value – no longer a “bet”.
With the Achilles I originally made three horses value. Live In The Dream, Believing and Democracy Dilemma… And chose to make Believing the main bet with a saver on the other two… thinking I might make one of the two savers another main bet in the morning when I knew what the ground would definitely be. Another reason I made Believing the main bet was because I thought there could be too much pace (although this is less of a problem over the minimum trip). However, it had occurred to me overnight that Believing’s tendency to be slowly away on at least 2 of her latest 5 starts may be a problem when racing over 5f. So decided to make her the saver bet and Live In The dream the main bet… So I did the two bets myself – backing LITD and laying Believing back at 7, so the + – on betfair for the race read + £1 something if Believing won… Then I got onto the forum and put LITD’s bet up on here… And then wrote out the LAY bet for Believing… “LAY £X @ 7 (betfair £XX available) Believing (maximum price 7.4)”… But before pressing submit, I check to see if the amount and price are still available… And in the time it took for me to write out and send the LITD bet and write the Believing Lay, Believing had gone right out to 8.6. So it was no longer value to Lay. No longer a bet I was able to advise. I waited for it to come down but I didn’t see it start to fall until shortly before the off.
I also sometimes have late bets myself, without being able to put them up on here.
Hope that explains things Stilvi, any more questions feel free to ask.
Value Is EverythingJune 9, 2024 at 15:02 #1697463Just two more questions do you bet in races other than those highlighted on the thread, and is your own profit/loss similar to that on the thread?
June 9, 2024 at 15:15 #1697465“Queen Anne:
(4.25%) £50 @ 15/2 (B365) Quddwah (min 7/1)
(6.4%) £88 @ 4/1 (Bet Victor) Inspiral (min 7/2)”
————————————————-
LAY £7 @ 4.1 (betfair £7 available) Inspiral (max 4.3)I’d like to say “Lay £20” but only £7 is available.
Although I still believe Inspiral will run in the Queen Anne, just makes it a little less likely with Passenger coming out of the POW connections might run there if either White Birch or Auguste Rodin also come out… And also the BBC weather forecast is for some light rain around Ascot on the Sunday, Monday and Tuesday and even the possibility of a thunder storm on the Saturday before Royal Ascot. (That said, it is the BBC so isn’t the most reliable). Bit more chance of going on the soft side – which is against Inspiral’s chance. So have reduced the liability.
NB Don’t Lay this bet if you are not already on Inspiral at the bigger price.
Value Is EverythingJune 9, 2024 at 16:04 #1697473I only have an occasional bet in races other than those highlighted on the thread, Stilvi. Where a horse stands out as being late value. Or if the value has gone before I am able to put the bet up on the forum. But these are rare.
Are you giving me an excuse for aftertiming, Stilvi? LOL.
My own profit is a bit more than what’s on the thread. Because I bet early, when liquidity can be poor. I sometimes take all of what’s available. Then once I’ve had my limit have to advise at what’s then available – at a shorter price… And because of that bigger price – with my staking plan the more value is in the bet the more money is staked. So my stakes are fairly often a bit higher than the thread too.(Although occasionally they’re lower. ie when a price lengthens after my own bet before I put it up on TRF. Or sometimes I’ll also put up a price that’s bigger with a well known bookmaker than I am personally able to take)
And sometimes I put a bet on betfair at a bigger price than what’s currently “available”, hoping someone might LAY it. If someone does “LAY” that bet I am not able to put it on the forum because it was never technically “available” – never on the blue side of the screen on betfair… But all this is aftertiming and I would not blame anyone if choosing not to believe anything that is not on the thread. Not sure I would in your / other forum members position.
I would NOT say the difference between my profit and the thread profit is enormous anyway. I’m quite happy to be judged solely on what is on the forum thread.
Value Is EverythingJune 9, 2024 at 22:52 #1697500Thanks for the explanations.
‘Aftertiming’ and ‘pocket talking’ are two racing terms I don’t really like as they are far too often used to just have a pop at someone. If someone mentions a bet after a race I am usually quite happy to take them at face value, otherwise what’s the point in posting. It only becomes tiresome if someone does it all the time, only mentioning when they win. Many times I have been on the receiving of the ‘pocket talking’ allegations when I haven’t backed said horse. If you have backed the horse then you should at least be in a position where you have watched the race. If our media were prepared to criticise nobody would need to do it, but that’s never going to happen.
