Just watched ‘Animal Farm’ – a programme about the various bio-technologies available to biological engineers to ‘improve’ our planet.

It led me to thinking. What would be wrong with cloning a great gelding to ‘recover’ his gene pool? Or the barren mare?

Also – if they find Shergar what could possibly be amiss with a spot of genetic engineering to producehundreds of sons and daughters?

Can’t be anything wrong withthat… can there?

Ten runners in a race and they are all the same horse.

<br>.. Well it all depends on your interpretation of improve surely?

Hitler reckoned that to have blues eyes and blonde hair was better than not having them and people who were genetically cursed with being a Slav or a Jewish type werent really worth the space they were occupying while they were walking around and wasting the space that the blonde haired and blue eyed ones could be breeding in.

Genetic Engineering works on the premise of something being better than something else and cant be achieved by selective breeding. If it can’t be achieved by selective breeding, then dont do it .. it’ll all end in tears.

cloning isn’t really genetic engineering though is it?  Isn’t it just giving you more chances of breeding true the traits that you are looking for.  You aren’t actually doing anything to actively select for them.  It’s not like you are finding the gene for running fast and splicing it into another animals DNA that can jump well.

I’m with Rob on this one, the biggest risk is finding a race with 12 Kauto stars in it.

But surely a race with 12 Kauto Stars would be exhilirating to watch?

Would the Hobbs Kauto win, or the O’Neill, or would Nicholls have enough Kauto-nous to foil them?

Yes, and place those ten identical horses in ten different stables, and you end with ten horses developing in ten different ways.
