Noticed earlier with the markets that Torpichen has seen a bit of support in the supreme novice. Think he would look a type for aintree too.
Hebridean very big on the exchanges for the triumph, would look like he’ll give it a miss, but whether he goes for the Fred Winter or straight from kempton to aintree, a la pierre lunaire is anyones guess at the minute, would be good if they had a market on offer for this race.

I would imagine that the Triumph is the preferred target, but Pipe’s Mr Thriller really impressed me when hammering Stow the other day and I’d have him above the debutant winners at this point in time.
February 16, 2009 at 20:33 #210546Coral have just opened a book on the fred winter making Alexander Severus a 7-1 favorite to win.
February 16, 2009 at 21:11 #210559PWN introduced another interesting prospect in his column today Nictory Vote . Rated 124 . Third twice at Auteuil including to Bucks Boum ,brother of Big Bucks. Going straight to the festival apparently.
Far worse horses to place behind than Bucks Boum Roddy – if Nictory Vote goes well in the Triumph (or the Fred Winter for that matter) it will have me kicking myself that Long Run didn’t run having backed him at a huge price for the Triumph on the back of a stuffing of Bucks Boum in November
February 17, 2009 at 02:29 #210636Nictory Vote runs at Taunton tomorrow at 14:50 (2nd race)
February 17, 2009 at 06:54 #210669Ronaldo des mottes also out at taunton tomorrow, think it is pretty fair to expect the rush to get a run into him could mean that he could well be pipes horse for the imperial cup/ fred winter double attempt this year, if he is then that’ll be two runs in quick succesion followed by 3 weeks off and another 2 runs in quick succession. Hmm..
February 17, 2009 at 15:09 #210691Ronaldo Des Mottes has been given an inital handicap mark of 140 for his win last week, so if Nictory Vote gets close to him today in receipt of 7lbs, he’s going to be bumped up the ratings before the weights are published.
That looks a stiff mark for RDM bearing in mind Ashkazar won the Imperial Cup off 135 last year.

Does anyone know what mark Mr Thriller has been given following his victory at Fontwell last time out?
Having backed him fairly heavily for the Triumph Hurdle, I’m keen to know whether what I’ve been told about him attempting the Imperial Cup/Fred Winter double is likely to be true.
February 18, 2009 at 17:13 #210904I am slightly biased, but Saticon could be interesting for this race from the yard.
Im quite sure, as is the team, that there is more to come from the horse and i think he will go quite well in the Fred Winter.
February 18, 2009 at 18:05 #210914Mr Thriller has a current rating of 141.
I’d guess Nictory Vote will be put up at least 10lbs for beating Ronaldo Des Mottes yesterday, so his chances in the Fred Winter have been sharply reduced. Still, Jim Lewis seemed delighted to have won a novice hurdle at Taunton ………

Thanks, AP.
February 19, 2009 at 19:16 #211157So much for my thread opening theory – Hebridean won’t be winning this race, as he hasn’t been entered!
February 19, 2009 at 20:03 #211166Do you think theres much chance that Ronaldo Des Mottes rating may be adjusted before the Fred Winter, he looks better than he’s shown so far, but 140 does look high, on what he’s acheived, and would surely force connections to consider the triumph.

I don’t know of any Pipe horse better equipped for the Imperial Cup/Fred Winter double than Ronaldo Des Mottes, not least because he now has form with Nictory Vote (I can’t see him having to give him 7lbs again). However, it would seem that the yard are more inclined to send Mr Thriller to Sandown (though that is only rumour, but still much to my annoyance).
February 19, 2009 at 20:18 #211169Nictory Vote has some top class form in France – would advise anyone who was impressed with that run to back Helium for the Triumph (form ties in very very well with NV).
February 21, 2009 at 19:15 #211546Will be interesting to see where the team send Trenchant now, either the Triumph hurdle or the Fred Winter.
What a progressive horse he has been this season too.
Very strong finish there.
February 21, 2009 at 21:04 #211584Gaz,
Your earlier posting about Saticon well justified by events today, but both he and Trenchant are going to be a lot higher in the weights now – I reckon Saticon could go up 10lbs to 137 – so their chances in the Fred Winter have been reduced accordingly.
Given the way Messrs King and Nicholls have campaigned horses this week, it seems they don’t want to win this race!
