AOB saddles two interesting newcomers in the 4:55 Fillies Maiden over 7½F at Leopardstown today.
The favourite is Giselle with Ryan Moore on board who is by Newspaperofrecord (Breeder’s Cup Junvile Fillies Turf winner) and the other is Bedtime Story who is by the dual Nunthorpe winner Mecca’s Angel. Both interestingly have a future entry in the G2 Airlie Stud Stakes over 6F at the end of the month.
June 6, 2024 at 17:03 #1697092Bedtime Story overturns her favoured stable companion with a nice performance.
Giselle was visably the greener of the two and was being pushed along well before the turn but she is a big filly (Bedtime Story isn’t small either) and will have learned a lot from the race.
Not sure either will be wanting to drop back to 6F though as they were both doing their best work at the end of the race.
Two nice prospects for sure.
June 22, 2024 at 14:52 #1699560I nearly played the 14’s on Bedtime Story yesterday for the guineas ..
4’s now top price… Looks a monsterGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
June 22, 2024 at 19:54 #1699676She does Indeed Nathan..We all have those moments.
4/1 might look good next may, theres always hope there will be a blip in her performances, and then the price drifts. Fingers crossed..
June 23, 2024 at 14:08 #1699741Still interested in where (and what) we see next from Giselle to be honest – see was a lot less street wise than Bedtime Story on the day but even a repeat of that run should be more than enough to win at a higher grade.
Although her pedigree might not suggest it, she might be effective over further than a mile in time.
June 27, 2024 at 01:22 #1700044A couple more of AOB’s Frankel fillies that are bred along the same lines as Bedtime Story (i.e. by a sprinting Group winning mare) that currently still have an entry in Saturday’s G2 6f Airlie Stud Stakes are:
Lake Victoria – by the Commonwealth and Sprint Cup G1 winner Quiet Reflection
Exactly – by the Queen Mary and Flying Childers G2 winner HeartacheBoth are unraced so who knows if one or even both will make their racecourse debut in a G2 especially given that AOB has 6 total entries of which the other 4 have all run and won and oddly includes Heavens Gate who finished 3rd to Fairy Godmother in the Albany last week.
June 27, 2024 at 15:09 #1700060Both fillies are now running in the 5:30 at the Curragh tomorrow over 7F (which was won by Ylang Ylang last year) with Ryan jocked up for Lake Victoria and Lordan on Exactly…..lets see if Ryan has picked correctly this time as he didn’t go with Bedtime Story when she made her winning debut.
There also happens to be a third Frankel filly running in the race – Juddmonte’s Red Letter for the Lyons/Keane team although she is nowhere near as royally bred as the other two.
June 28, 2024 at 17:37 #1700132Lake Victoria just holds on from Red Letter with the pair drawing clear from the rest – could be two nice fillies going forward.
June 29, 2024 at 16:40 #1700342As you say LD73, they could be two nice fillies moving forward, but I got the impression there was a bit more left in the locker for Lake Victoria in this race.
July 17, 2024 at 08:48 #1702010The dilemma for the 1000 guineas is that Aidan has got it wrong the last two years
I’ve had bits and pieces on Bedtime Story but I couldn’t fully open the wallet even at the bigger pricesGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
July 17, 2024 at 17:27 #1702021Trip wise it will be very interesting with Bedtime Story because even though by dual Nunthorpe winner Mecca’s Angel, the further she went the better she looked at Ascot and that was over a stiff 7F (even though Ryan did say that throughout the race they weren’t going fast enough for her) and on her debut she won over 7½F at Leopardstown.
She has an entry in the Moyglare over 7F but I would imagine that the Fillies Mile or Marcel Bousaac would also be options after and could it be that the mile of next year’s 1000g maybe a bare minimum for her as a 3yr old?
Afterall Frankel does impart a lot of stamina in his stock, so the Oaks could also be something they might entertain with her.
July 17, 2024 at 19:53 #1702032Not Frankel best season but loads of cracking 2yos abound. Look horses of some substance too. Very exciting.
July 24, 2024 at 18:46 #1702586Bedtime Story makes her return to the track tomorrow at Leopardstown in the G3 Silver Flash Stakes at 5:50pm with her main rival a fellow Frankel stable companion Exactly, who’s form ties into two other Frankel fillies in Lake Victoria (another stable companion) and Red Letter who won at the Curragh last Sunday.
July 25, 2024 at 17:48 #17026611-16 on, really on a hiding to nothing here – anything other than a wide margin win will be seen as underperforming.
July 25, 2024 at 17:53 #1702663Missing the wow factor for sure and took a real keen hold early on but got the job done pretty professionally.
July 25, 2024 at 22:47 #1702685Ryan said after Ascot that they couldn’t go quick enough for her and today was ran at a sedate enough pace with Ryan taking a hold of her so was never going to be the prettiest of runs. I’ve now backed her in the Oaks pre today and also in a double with The Lion in Winter for the Derby

August 10, 2024 at 15:50 #1704408Lake Victoria despite pulling early and still looking green makes all to win the G3 Sweet Solera on her 2nd start – another exciting 2yr old filly for the O’Brien camp and he may have trouble keeping them all apart in the big 6-8F fillies races upcoming.
Fyi, this was his first ever runner in this particular race and it may well be because of the number of good 2yr old fillies he currently has that he is having to cast his net a bit further out than normal to keep them apart.
