So many question marks???????
Did Fleeting Spirit really put up such a good time figure when 5f has never been run by such good horses at Haydock, on firm ground?
Did Borderlescott improve there? On his run yesterday may be not, then again it was a stiff 6f.
Dandy Man was well backed there, and lost a shoe, have Godolphin improved him this term?
Benbaun ran disappointingly in France on reappearance, is he passed it at 7yo? Wallace is in much better form now, will he run well from stall 1? Will Captain Gerrard (drawn 2) get the lead and trap Benbaun on the rail? Is the rail the place to be?
Can Enticing, a weak finisher, improve for headgear?
Kingsgate Native looks value on "form", but is the yard in good enough form?
Is Takeover Target as good as he was, at the age of 9?
Is Magnus a good group 1 animal?
What will be the effects of past steroid use?
And many more.Mark
Value Is EverythingJune 16, 2008 at 13:30 #168540I was rather impressed by fleeting spirit’s performance last time but I think it is well over rated, and her price of 9/4 on the back of that run looks ridiculous to me, it will not surprise me if she finds a few too good tomorrow. Dandy man clearly failed to run to form (as is now his trademark) last time and the rest are not the most reliable yardsticks IMO (both dandy man and desert lord lost shoes by my recollection and desert lord was placed behind her), she did beat them easily though, but this is the kings stand, and shes 9/4. Not for me.

Is Magnus a good group 1 animal? No and no.
June 16, 2008 at 13:51 #168552No….Horses against pumped up steroid abusing freaks
I’ll leave you to explain that one to Peter Moody, just hope you don’t meet him in a dark alley! Not all Australian trainers are as vociferous. My namesake is laid back, in comparison.

My view is that she did. The fact that it was a track record is neither here nor there. It’s the standard times that are important and she put up a very good time relative to standard when compared with other horses racing over the sprint course at Haydock on that day. It doesn’t mean she’ll win tomorrow, of course, but the 5/1 mentioned by DJ at the start of this thread looks pretty good now and provides at the very least a decent hedging opportunity.
June 16, 2008 at 18:49 #168595I’m going for Magnus, without a lot of confidence it has to be said, but this stiff 5f is probably just what he needs, although his wins-to-runs ratio isn’t the best.
Kingsgate Native (if he’s trained on), Takeover Target and Benbaun look the main dangers.
June 16, 2008 at 19:02 #168598On the subject of Kingsgate Native. Did anyone notice that Kingsgate Storm (same owner/trainer combo) is running in the Norfolk Stakes later in the day. The same race that Kingsgate Native nearly won at 66/1 last year. This year, Kingsgate Storm is an 80/1 shot with Coral, probably because his first race was a bit of a disaster. My instinct has told me to throw a few £’s at it, I can think of worse 80/1 pokes.
June 16, 2008 at 19:35 #168603I should have mentioned this earlier, but for any cautious minded people who were thinking of taking on Fleeting Spirit, it’s worth checking out Paddy Power. They are offering customers their win stake back if their selection finishes second to Fleeting Spirit.
June 17, 2008 at 06:03 #168653FLEETING SPIRIT deserves to be a short-priced favourite. Her juvenile form was rock solid and she has obviously retained that ability.
Beaten by the smart Nahoodh in the Lowther and superstar filly Natagora in the Cheveley Park, her only defeats thus far have came over six furlongs.
She defeated future Nunthorpe winner and Abbaye runner up Kingsgate Native in the Molecomb as a Juvenile and remains unbeaten over the minimum distance.
I think the 3YOs could well clean up in this race, with KINGSGATE NATIVE and EQUIANO, who could find impovement on this better ground, filling the frame.
June 17, 2008 at 08:45 #168666Interesting race to watch but the market is probably on the mark with regards to FLEETING SPIRIT, i can pick a few positives and a few negatives in what`s she`s shown to date.
NEGATIVES
Looks a bit highly strung
Will struggle to get a clear passage if she shows same antics as LTO (ie miss break)
POSITIVES
Is clearly the fastest horse in the race
Came from behind to win at Haydock which isn`t easy
Going conditions are near to perfect
Stiff 5 furlongs should prove optimum
Top jockey
With regards to the others, i can`t ever remember getting an horse more wrong than DANDY MAN, i thought he was an absolute tap in LTO and he ran like a pig (I know they made excuses!!),he too has optimum conditions but ive forgiven him once too often, KINGSGATE NATIVE ran a cracker on his 2-y-o debut and progressed to win a group one and run a find 2nd in the LÀbbaye on a track that wouldn`t have suited,it will be interesting to see him run again, the Aussies don`t really interest me especially in the light of what MDEERING as put forward,CAPTAIN GERRARD was very disappointing in France on going he should have enjoyed,BENBAUM is a credit to his trainer and i expect him to run his race and finish thereabouts, im not going to take the form of EQUIANO seriously despite him being in front of a few LTO, that race didn`t run true imo!
Lets get it on!

June 20, 2008 at 16:15 #169500Did Fleeting Spirit cough after the Kings Stand?
