Proponent has the added curse of the large P from timeform!

Disappointed to see so many Proponent fans, guess my dark horse isn’t so dark after all. :)
Bloody hope not, Sal! Where did you hear/read this? I see he’s been put in the Irish Derby as well but I do not know when the entries for this were made. Recently I hope!
March 18, 2007 at 18:42 #47406It was confirmed that Spanish Moon would miss the Derby, set back.
March 18, 2007 at 20:31 #47408I like the Triple Crown idea Corm.
We have just seen jump racings triple crown won and the massive bonus that goes with it. In the States the Triple Crown is all people talk about from the minute the Derrrby winner passes the post. Oh and the £5million bonus that is up for grabs.
Why do we not care for a triple crown (Corm apart) for our flat season.
March 18, 2007 at 20:34 #47409Forgot to post Teofilo and Rainbow Promises are the ones I’m looking forward to early doors.
March 18, 2007 at 20:37 #47411I do. I’d love more than anything to see a triple crown winner.
Alas I don’t think Teofilo will do it infact I think he’ll lack the speed to even win leg one.
If you look at Teofilo’s bare form he’s scraped home on two or three occasions and is rated only a couple of pounds higher as a two year old than the next highest. Teofilo’s skinny Guineas price and triple crown "expectancy" is down more to hype and Jim Bolgers opinion than anything he’s done on the racecourse.
I think he deserves to be favourite for the Guineas but nowhere near as short as he is and i think he might well get done for a turn of foot.
As for the Derby I’m not overly convinced he’ll stay nor am I overly convinced he will be suited by a track like Epsom.
Just my view, I expect there will be many that disagree.
March 18, 2007 at 20:45 #47412For me, there is nothing in Teofilo’s racing style at 2 yrs that suggests he’ll lack pace in the Guineas. It’s the amount of pace he has that makes me wonder whether he’ll stay as well as what he’s bred to. I’d rather back him at 7/4 to win the Guineas than at 7/2 to win the Derby.
March 18, 2007 at 20:52 #47414DJ just as a matter of interest, do you think what Teofilo has done on the racecourse warrants him being as short as 5/4 for the Guineas?

March 18, 2007 at 21:04 #47415At current prices I wouldn’t lay Teofilo for the Guineas as at the moment, there isn’t a horse that strikes as a contender for the Guineas that I wouldn’t expect him to finish in front of. Hard to see anything reversing form with him from the Dewhurst. I can’t have it that Dutch Art will stay 1m and I don’t think Authorized will run in the race.
March 18, 2007 at 21:10 #47417Finsceal Beo.
March 18, 2007 at 21:14 #47419DJ, why do you think Dutch Art won’t stay a mile?
March 18, 2007 at 21:16 #47421Quote: from guskennedy on 10:10 pm on Mar. 18, 2007[br]Finsceal Beo.
Totally agree. She has all the form, both collateral and on the clock. 4/1 is available today and that will look huge when she storms clear in the 1,000.

March 18, 2007 at 21:19 #47422I can’t believe Finsceal Beo isn’t 7/4 at best. She’s a long way clear on form of everything but Sander Camillo and if Sander Camillo stays a mile I’ll be absolutely flaberghasted.
March 18, 2007 at 21:27 #47425What is there to suggest Sander Camillo won’t stay 1m. She is in no way headstrong and both her sire and dam showed their form at 1m and further.
Everything about her racing style she’s a speed ball. She just looks all over a fast ground sprinter to me.
I may be wrong, I often am lol but I wouldn’t back her with someone elses money over a mile.
March 18, 2007 at 21:36 #47428As you can see I have to disagree. I don’t think she is a speedball. I think her speed can be harnessed because she hasn’t looked at all headstrong. She’s gone as quickly as what her rider has wanted/allowed her to. At this stage I’ll be surprised if she or Finsceal Beo doesn’t win the Guineas, but then I’m hardly sticking my neck out with such a prediction am I.
We could have said the same thing about Attraction (whose ability to stay a mile on pedigree was quite unconvincing) a couple of years ago and look what she did..
The ground seems to be the key to her though, as with the vast majority of other American-bred horses.. being by Dixie Union she has a cracking pedigree for a broodmare as well..
Maybe. If you look hard enough though you can find an example to back up just about any opinion you can think of.
I think when you look at the 1000 Guineas you take a view because on everything we know it looks a two horse race it’s double figures about everything else. Finsceal Beo is rock solid, we know she has the form, we know she’ll handle the ground (unless its unusual for the time of year) and we know the trip will suit. That leaves Sander Camillo I think people either take a view that she will stay or she won’t.
I think she’s a quicker filly than Attraction was but I take your point and I wouldn’t say either you or DJ are wrong. I’ve just taken a view based upon what I believe and backing my own judgement. Sometimes I’m right, sometimes I’m wrong.
