Value Is EverythingMay 9, 2012 at 13:59 #403638Pathetic!
If there is one race in the whole year’s flat racing that you don’t want a flag start, it is this one. 2m2f+ around a very sharp track, where draw advantage usually has a massive say in the result. When the race starts with some who usually front run or race prominemtly behind others (little or no chance). As far as I am concerned I threw money away there. Had I had time to go through the form again, I probably would’ve backed the first two. Of course it is going to favour those with jumping experience – those who are used to non-stalls starts.
With the whole race changed enormously so late. I won’t be having any more bets at Chester this year, in case they do the same again.Value Is EverythingMay 9, 2012 at 14:19 #403642We’ll have no pocket talk here, ginger!
I lost in every race with the added insult of changing my mind at the last minute about a tenner each way on a 50/1 winner. Do you see me moaning? No. It’s why I love racing.

*Chuckles*
May 9, 2012 at 14:30 #403644Are you serious? The draw is of little consequence, particularly in this race. There are too many other factors involved and if you’re going on the draw to influence you, you maybe should be ignoring the race if you’re letting a factor of such minor influence lead you.
May 9, 2012 at 14:31 #403645Annoying but the racecourse is damned if they call a flag start and damned if they don’t and then the stalls get stuck on the track and cause complete chaos during the race.
It might be argued that at least over 2m 2f, the runners have a chance to get back into the race if things go amiss at the start. Imagine if the 5f races were flag started!!May 9, 2012 at 14:46 #403650My point is the decision should’ve been made much earlier, to be fair on punters. So they could react.
Value Is EverythingMay 9, 2012 at 14:52 #403651But Ginge, it was dry and quite pleasant in Chester until about 12:40 when it started to drizzle and, eventually bucketed down. (It’s dry and fair here now.)
May 9, 2012 at 15:26 #403655Well said Ginge,had I known
Overturn
was allowed a head start thus enabling him to grab the rail from his pretend Box 8 I would have backed him myself.Eddie played a blinder stealing his lead at the start and had he won the words ‘Cheatin B*stard’ would have been heard up and down the country.Eddies initiative was the opposite to Dominic Foxes lack of!! Punters should be refunded! A disgrace of a race!
May 9, 2012 at 15:32 #403657In fairness to Dominic Fox, Jim Crowley did put him over the rail after they had gone about half a furlong. No stewards though.

I don’t have the words…!!

Yeah, be much better if it was in the Stewards Cup or something…

This has to be irony, yes?

As opposed to the 4 mentioned in a different thread!!May 9, 2012 at 17:45 #403673Would echo Mike’s comments about other races less suitable for flag starts. Anyone remember the temple started by flag at Epsom because of the stall handlers strike. A mockery of a shambles if ever there was one.

Yes you do, you used them in another reply: irony.

Keep dreaming.
