Killed at Wetherby yesterday – aged 6 yrs. This mare ran 4 times – 9th, PU, 11th, fell. Didn’t win a penny. Now you’ve got to ask why she was hurdling.

SPs every time she ran were 100-1 and higher. And in each of her three hurdle races she was already tailed off after the fourth flight. I don’t get it.
Her trainer – James Turner – has a rather good strike rate on the Flat: 22% winners in the last five years.
His jumpers are also doing alright over that same period of time.
But you never know what owners ask their trainers and furthermore their horses to do. Especially on ground that was first frozen overnight and then became heavy during the day.
    Rest in Peace Filey Bay
