About time we had a thread on this one.
A small but select field for what is probably the best novices’ chase so far this season.
The Market Man is the likely favourite, and was impressive beating Kicks For Free at Newbury. However, Paul Nicholls should have a good handle on what that form is worth, and it will be interesting to see how bullish he is about Breedsbreeze’s chances here. Massini’s Maguire is a possible on his best hurdles form, and Shining Gale looks an improver.
The French horse is difficult to assess, and Hold Em looks outclassed (will probably bolt up now).
All in all an intriguing contest. A watching brief for me possibly, but I might be tempted by Breedsbreeze and Shining Gale depending on prices. If I can get the RP forecast 7-2 about the former, that will be the bet.
Any angles on this chaps?
December 23, 2008 at 18:38 #198832I quite like the look of Massini’s Maguire for this one.
I think he will run a big race.
December 23, 2008 at 18:50 #198833Needs to step up on his debut form for me Gaz, but he’s fully entitled to given the length of his absence and that it was his first run over the bigger obstacles.
Big chance, though beware the dreaded bounce.
December 23, 2008 at 19:17 #198838The Market Man was very impressive last time out and beat a good horse quite easily in Kicks For Free. I think he’s the one they all have to beat.

December 24, 2008 at 02:11 #198884Breedsbreeze @ those prices. However, oppose Nicky Henderson at your peril.
December 24, 2008 at 03:55 #1989006-4 on Bet365 for both Market Man and Breeds. Sounds like the market cant split them and I’m struggling to.
Although, through a tentative trendline through of Ring The Boss I feel Market Man may just have the better chance here.
According to RPR’s, Ring The Boss ran very similar against both opponents in his last two runs. Market Man beat him by 26L, Breedsbreeze beat him by 11L.
Granted, Market Man ran off 7lbs lower than Breedsbreeze did but that would still put Market Man ahead narrowly IMO. Market Man was having his first run for 8 months and what with all of the constant injury disruptions throughout his career you wouldnt have expected such a high class performance in that kind of first run out.
Theres more to come from The Market Man
December 24, 2008 at 09:16 #198935Very hard to oppose Market Man he’s a cracking horse.
I suppoe he has a bit of form line through his other runners but I’m not convinced PN’s is in the same class.
This could be much easier for Nicky’s than it looks on paper. Cracking bet and one I won’t be missing.
December 24, 2008 at 09:36 #198937I can’t have Broadsbreeze losing here.
You could say MM has the upper hand in their beatings of Ring The Boss, but I feel the former has far more up it’s sleeve IMO. I thinks it’s a goodun.
December 24, 2008 at 14:21 #198949Kempton is a course that rewards fine jumpers at speed. Ok. all courses do to some extent but those quick fences in the final straight should be perfect for Market Man. Stable isnt exactly out of form either?
His last performance was superb. One of those where you just cannot think of opposing him next time out
December 24, 2008 at 16:34 #198988I think this is a stronger race than the market makes out and the front two are too short in my opinion. But i’m really not sure whats going to win so I think i’ll just watch!!!
December 24, 2008 at 16:50 #198996Also, does anyone know why Johnson is running Tidal Bay in the Rowland Meyrick? Seems a strange and maybe concerning decision..
December 24, 2008 at 17:26 #199002He apparantly went to PN’s to watch Kauto Star work to and crapped himself

Gawd knows mate could it be that after he got slaughtered by Master Minded he decided he simply isn’t as good as some ofus thought?
Maybe he is taking PN’s word for it that Kauto Star has not gone backwards and would rather go to Wetherby where he could posssibly win than go to Kempton and have no chance.
It could end up being a very good decision but I personally am leaving the race alone because he’s giving away a lot of weight and trying a new distance for the first time…..bit too dodgy a bet for me.
December 24, 2008 at 18:17 #199017Think Shining Gale should appreciate the step up and may find a few lbs improvement, he bethe one for me,, although the front two in the betting look pretty good and Msssinis Maguire is no mug either.
December 24, 2008 at 18:47 #199025breedsbreeze is a terrible price, which makes this a no bet race for me unless MM goes out to 9/4
December 24, 2008 at 18:48 #199026I can’t have Broadsbreeze losing here.
You could say MM has the upper hand in their beatings of Ring The Boss, but I feel the former has far more up it’s sleeve IMO. I thinks it’s a goodun.
It would seem he is PN’s second string for the big one at Cheltenham. It could be he isn’t that highly regarded or it quite simply might be they are worried about the trip.
One things for sure this is a step and a half up from anything he has been asked to do so far where as Market Man has proved already he is capapable of taking on someof the best.
December 24, 2008 at 19:34 #199037If the racing post is right with 7/2 for breedsbreeze ill be taking that on big time.He impressed me hugely in his last race.
December 24, 2008 at 20:23 #199040he obviously impressed those PP boy’s, he’s 6/4 with them!
