Dancing Brave. Simply the greatest.
March 31, 2010 at 17:05 #286757Flat: Giant’s Causeway with a close second going to Bosra Sham
Chasers: Young Kenny with Seven Towers not too far away.
Hurdlers: Deanos Beano and I also had a soft spot for Ned Kelly.March 31, 2010 at 17:24 #286762JUMPS
Remittance Man & Well Chief (Can’t split them!)
FLAT
Dayjur
March 31, 2010 at 17:34 #286765No horse has come close to sheer character guts and charisma of Desert orchid..in my time anyway. By todays standards it is astonishing how often he competed too
Kauto is the one jumps horse who has captured imagination in a similar way
As much as i was taken by STS and he proved profitable too (although thats not really a good criteria) I will agree with Max on Dancing Brave. Unlike STS perhaps, he genuinely beat great horses. Astonishing to watch too
Wilsons mention of Dayjur is very welcome
Of lesser rated horses, monkerhostin is a fave too for a variety of reasons
March 31, 2010 at 17:59 #286771Between Grey Abbey & My Way De Solzen for me
March 31, 2010 at 18:01 #286772Chase – Kauto Star
Hurdle – Brave Inca
Flat – Ouija Board + Dylan ThomasBlackbeard to conquer the World
March 31, 2010 at 21:27 #286811Big fan of Desert Orchid and Kauto Star. Also Moscow Flyer. Master Minded as well. The QMCC was hard to watch.
On the flat – New Approach. He’s been overlooked in my opinion and would give StS a run
March 31, 2010 at 21:43 #286817Mon Mome.
I had a really awful 2009 but the GN was a high point of it. And knickers to the money (I stuck to my usual small stakes & don’t mind the resulting small return), it was the whole story.
March 31, 2010 at 21:58 #286822Chase : Arkle
Hurdles : Solerina
Flat : ArdrossMarch 31, 2010 at 22:02 #286823Pretty new to the game, but I’d say Kauto Star, just, over Desert Orchid.
Of the lesser-rated horses, Eric’s Charm.

So don't run, just like the others always do
March 31, 2010 at 22:31 #286826My favourite horse over recent years was Puntal but also have soft spots for Well Chief, Grey Abbey and Rooster Booster.
On flat I loved Persian Punch (who had the heart of a lion) and Rising Cross (who was tiny but managed to finish 2nd to Alexandrova in the 2006 Oaks).
March 31, 2010 at 22:50 #286830Ch – Young Kenny/Grey Abbey
Hrd – Inglis Drever
Flat – Shamardal/Rakti
I could list plenty more but I would say this lot sit pretty near the top
March 31, 2010 at 22:59 #286832I’m ashamed to say, mort, that I have had the book ‘The Dikler and his Circle’ on my bookshelf for year and have never read it.It has a wonderful photo of Pendil jumping the last in the 1973 Gold Cup.Who would have thought the big horse would get past him! What a race that was, I’ve never seen it before. There’s another photo of Darkie Deacon with The Dikler and Charlie Potheen. What times they must have been at Saxon House….
April 1, 2010 at 09:31 #286877Viking Flagship – the toughest old thing even if not the best.
But how about some lower class horses that you knew would do the business with the right conditions and you liked them for that reason?
Mid 80’s –
Finnesko
2miles, uncontested lead class E or F, G/S probably at Towcester. 16/1 x 2
Late 90’s
Wet midweek at Plumpton, probably heavy 2 to 2.5 miles. It’s Wallace.
just kept winning.
April 1, 2010 at 11:22 #286907Flat – Rock Of Gibraltar
Hurdles – Night Nurse
Chase – the very great Moscow FlyerOverall – Moscow
April 1, 2010 at 11:30 #286909I love the dogs.
Robbo probably tops my list at the moment, although Kennel Hill could improve his position by giving AP a memorable afternoon at Ludlow today.
April 1, 2010 at 11:42 #286913Black Humour for me – think he’s the only horse to fall in the Champion Hurdle, Gold Cup
and
Grand National. Don’t know why that makes him a favourite…..but it does
