The live radio commentaries on the sporting life site are a useful feature and I like the layout of their ‘Fast Results’ section too. The free video form on the ATR site is handy.
February 26, 2008 at 22:39 #146701Racing Post for me too, without a doubt!
I find "Pedigree Query" quite useful and interesting, use it quite often.
Also quite like the Breeder’s Cup website, very useful for checking the registered names of foals that you can’t find anywhere else (or no-where else that i’ve found yet!). This feature used to be on the NTRA website but they have moved it recently.
February 26, 2008 at 22:41 #146702William Hill Radio is vermin. I must get this off my chest. It’s the only way I can access any form of British racing and it is terrible. Sounds like it is broadcast in some bloke’s bedroom. Sounds like the commentators are covering the races in the bedroom opposite.
The Dubai Racing Club blog is superb. Emirates Racing website too.
Racing Post – don’t know if I would live without it.
TB Heritage is a lovely website and I’m learning about the foundation sires currently.
YouTube – kingpresa’s page. Merci beaucoup to him!
February 26, 2008 at 22:47 #146705The racing post is definitely my number one as with most people I would expect.
I also like william hill radio on their website, Lord Budden on that station is brilliant, he talks properly posh but he’s on the ball and can make good listening at times.
Theres one of the commentators on sporting life, also does paddy power I think, who talks really camp and overuses the phrase "old boy", dont know who he is but his voice goes through me.
February 26, 2008 at 23:19 #146709Being in Melbourne like MDeering, I agree completely about Hills radio. Absolutely shocking stuff.
Sporting life have a great web site planner, which makes it so friendly to use imo.
Racing Post is of course brilliant but that’s nothing new in this thread.
I am well impressed with jackane24 on youtube who is getting so many of the races up so quickly… keep up the good work!
February 26, 2008 at 23:30 #146712my favourites are adrianmassey and horseracebase.com
adrianmassey is well documented and of course its free which is superb!
horseracebase is fairly new but seriously worth checking out – i have been using it a good while and would definitely recommend it. its donation based
i do like the racing post but more and more they seem to be pushing services of tipsters etc. just my opinion though
i like atttheraces cause of the free videos
February 26, 2008 at 23:37 #146714Free videos? Oh that’s right – I cannot access them. Thanks very much.
February 26, 2008 at 23:37 #146715William Hill Radio is the most detestable racing ‘aid’ currently available, and any time I am forced into listening to it serves to be the lowlight of my day. The fact that the presenters think so much of themselves apart, I get tired of having to listen to ‘Broonie’ and company talk about women in every derogatory sense imagineable, and give each other a pat on the back when they’ve mentioned all bar two horses in the race and one of the fifteen comes in.
And don’t get me started on Budden. Is he related to the lad who runs the Elite Racing Con…sorry…Club?
February 26, 2008 at 23:45 #146718I breathe a sigh of relief that I am not alone in this critical sentiment.
I had to listen in to Speciosa and George Washington’s Classic victories through Willy Hill. The coverage and broadcast of those pair of races could be compared to a low-rating Handicap in pits-ville. I would have hoped for some more excitement after watching Gorgeous George’s win on video the next day.
Seriously – do a bunch of Uni kids produced and broadcast the radio? It has that similar style of amateur hogwash.
They should save their money. Fund it back to the punters.
February 26, 2008 at 23:50 #146720As you can probably guess, my favourites are international, with a German bias:
http://www.galopponline.de – The Galopponline website, everyhting you need to know about German racing, has an excellent news section (In German only).
http://www.racebets.com – German/Bosnian bookmakers website, superb coverage with races from just about everywhere. (In English, German and Polish).
http://www.onextwo.de – Not as good as it used to be, but still very good coverage (In English and German).
http://www.france-galop.com (Previously mentioned)
http://www.zeturf.com (Previously mentioned)
http://www.tjk.org – Turkish Jockey Club, home of the very shouty commentators! Also has an excellent video database. (In Turkish and English).
http://www.ippica.biz – Italian racing website with free videos of EVERY race in Italy. (In Italian only).
http://www.whiteturf.ch – Home of St. Moritz races on the frozen lake. (In English and German).
http://www.pardubice-racecourse.cz – Velka Pardubicka website (In Czech and English).
http://www.galopp-forum.de – German racing forum (In German only).
https://www.theracingforum.co.uk (Better leave the best till last eh!!!)

February 26, 2008 at 23:53 #146721The RP website is head and shoulders above any other. I do dip into the Sporting Life site, occasionally, and Horse Racing Ireland’s site provides a good archive of results. The BHA’s site also contains a decent source of reference for anyone who requires information about the rules of racing.
However, a significant and frequently repeated failure of website administrators is that of keeping information up-to-date.and a fairly lax attitude seems to be the norm.
Possibly the worst media-maintained horse racing website, from a major organsation that has any pretence to covering sport, is that of the BBC. It reflects their attitude, not only to horse racing, but sport in general. The only sports that the BBC seem to have any real interest in are the 6 nations rugby, Wimbledon and jolly, virtuous, athletics. Would it be a great loss if they pulled out of racing altogether? I, for one, wouldn’t miss their sycophantic treatment of Aintree or Royal Ascot.
February 26, 2008 at 23:54 #146722Could I access some German form for races like the Deutsches Derby or Grosser Preis von Baden? Or will I leave that all for you to give us the lowdown?
February 27, 2008 at 00:31 #146728No problem! Actually, your best bet is http://www.racebets.com – they have a superb database of all German form, and are about the only German bookmaker who also do ante post – they already have a market for the German Derby – click on that (bottom left of screen), then click the horse for form.

February 27, 2008 at 00:59 #146729What can you tell me of Liang Kay?
February 27, 2008 at 02:23 #146735Not a website, but ‘Have Your Say’ on teletext racing on Channel 4 is always good for a laugh…lol
The C4 teletext service is generally good with the exception of have ur say.
Paul Nicholls column is essential reading and the "late whisper" tipping service has a great recordFebruary 27, 2008 at 09:51 #146776William Hill Radio is vermin. I must get this off my chest. It’s the only way I can access any form of British racing and it is terrible.
Can you not access Betfair Radio, Myles? Given the number of overseas emails we get, I’d assumed it was a globally-accessible resource.
If you’re suitably curious, follow the link at the bottom of my post. Greyhound coverage starts today at 11am UK time, racing 1.45pm.
My good deed for the day, I hope.

February 27, 2008 at 10:19 #146781Yes, or Sports live radio, available through Ladbrokes.
I too can’t stand William Hill radio, what a bloody row that is.
