    Carlisle,

Unfortunately I don’t know how to past e the info directly into the SS, I just pasted to a blank sheet and then cut and paste the required data. The form is a bit trickier as you need to add the figures up for the last 3 races so I just do this manually.

Any idea on the races to go for this weekend?

    Hensman,

Thanks for the tip, not sure if this is in the same order as the racecard though

    Hi 1FurOut

as I thought you are just dipping in and out of a pool of imported data. Then pasting it in the right places.

Hensman is that what you do with your results stuff?

I have got college tonight and then a market Research group to attend.
I get £75 so it’s worth doing. So I haven’t had chance to look at this weekends races yet.

I will flag some up in the morning.

    cheers from

ps I enjoyed last weeks efforts so lets keep it going, and aim for some improvement.

I use Excel 2000 for results, and download to a workbook which is set up so that the Post data arrives in sheet 1 and what I want is automatically transferred to the right cells in sheet 2, which is set up as my database. Some of the data needs quick re-formatting via macros, and then the whole section is cut and pasted into the database. Its quicker to do than describe!

"Wallace I am shocked that you pay £69, I only pay £49, but I have been a continuous subscriber for about 7 years. " Carlisle, I’m shocked to read this!! You sure you are paying £49 per month for both flat and jumps??

    Hi Lamby150

let me know what you think of the spreadsheets that I have just sent you.

    Dear Carlisle

Many thanks for the sheets I quite like your rank formula. However I think I may have gotten confused as I was kind of looking for somehow/method/way to extract the RP card data into one sheet and then transferring the required data into a second sheet for analysis.

I think Hensman may have an idea about how to do that?

    Cheers

The way to do it is to download the card into sheet 1 of the workbook by the method I summarised in a previous post, and check with downloads from two or three races that what you want always arrives in the same cells (it does with the form downloads I use, ie the details of the first horse are always in row 15, second horse row 16 etc.).

Presuming that the same applies to cards, all you need then do is set up sheet 2 in the workbook as your analysis sheet, and for the data to be copied across from sheet 1 enter the relevant formula. For example, if you wanted the horses’ names listed in col. A of sheet 2, and the first horse’s name in sheet 1 was always in cell T15, the second name in T16 etc, select cell A1 in sheet 2 and enter the formula =Sheet1!T15. Then all you need do is drag the formula down col. A for as many rows as you are likely to need – 30 should be plenty except fot the Grand National! Similarly, if you want the RPR, OR, TS ratings or whatever, note where they start in sheet 1 and then put formulas in the first cells in sheet 2 into which you wish the data to be copied.

It can take a while to set up sheet 2, depending on how much data you want copied across, but you only have to do it once. Save the workbook (without any cell contents) as, say, download.xls, and each time you want to analyse a race, copy it and download the data into the copy. Use that for your analysis, save it in your archive once finished as, say, 27 Sept., 3.30 Pontefract, and go on to the next one. (I suggest always working from a copy because although you can use the original download.xls, saving each race under an appropriate title by the "save as" function, it is easy inadvertently to delete a formula, as well as cell contents, and of course if one does that one has to set the sheet up again.)

With my records workbook, I have about twenty cols. in sheet 2, five of which (where the info. is horse-specific such as weight, and OR, fill up automatically by this means, saving a lot of time in copy typing data. The other cols. are either filled by dragging down a constant – ie g for good going – which applies to all the runners, and thus only needs to be entered in the first cell of the col., or by formulas which link elements in previous cols. So what could, for a big field race like the Cambridgeshire, take the better part of half an hour takes no more than five minutes.

    Hi 1FurOut

I think these races look the most promising.

    NonHcps
    =======
    1400asc
    1620asc
    1655asc

    Hcps
    ====
    1425hay
    1720hay
    1730asc

Hopefully we can maintain a high success strike rate for our shortlists. This is definitely one third of the battle as far as I am concerned. Last week we hit 5 out of 6 (83%)… which was very good.

I think we should have the option of throwing out a race that looks too difficult though.

You’re out performing me on the tipping front so far, but I am gunning for you sunshine. For sure……

ps 2 tips in one race is allowed, but the stakes are halved.

Not looking forward to this weekend, well Ascot anyway. I never have any luck from my selections at the course.

Interesting to see a couple of decent fields at Market Rasen but given how early in the season (depedning on when you deem the season starts) it is so of the form might be a bit off

    We can only but try

    Hi mate

it’s annoying when the going changes, like it has at Ascot. The RP website still says it will be Good/Firm. From watching ATR today it’s more likely to be Soft.

So I have done fast ground speed ratings and also slow ground ones.
The latter look far more promising, it might therefore be a blessing in disguise.

A word of caution for you, I reckon the RPR & topspeed figures on the website are for fast conditions. I wonder if they will alter them?

I have got a right little fancy tucked up my sleeve.

ps EW’s are also allowed. If you end up losing a hundred points you have to shoot yourself.

Some very difficult races today and shortlists not as short as I’d like.

2pm Ascot – Passion Fruit, Gold Hush, Ventura, Perfect Star
2.25 Hay – Daryal, Mighty Moon
16.20 Ascot – Ramonti, Excellent Art, Darjina
16.55 Ascot – Diamond Diva, Italian Girl, Miss Lucifer
17.20 Hay – All the Aces, Blue Citadel, Green Wadi
17.30 Ascoy – Kasthari, Castle Howard, Whispering Death.

I also like a number of other runners in the TV races (more later)
