Cherryade, totally adicted to it, on its own, with Vodka, get through 20 litres a week, serious habit…..

Never too keen on Cherryade, soft or hard, but used to sluice Ben Shaw’s American Cream Soda (a lurid green) and malty Dandelion & Burdock

They and a myriad other flavours (Sarsaparilla anyone?) were sold in glass Quart returnable bottles and Shaw’s (Huddersfield) used to have a flourishing home delivery service all over Yorkshire, and I daresay elsewhere

Nope, don’t think they’d been invented when I were a lad

My grandmother who’s consumption of whisky seemed to increase with every passing year always had a Soda Siphon near to hand

They’ve fallen out of use now but they used to be on most bars in pubs too, free to use

Grandma Beryl in ‘her’ armchair, whisky-and-soda, ashtray brimming with Players Plain ciggie stubs

    Enduring image :)

Aye, the delivery stretched into Saddleworth as well, I can confirm! There were always kids in our class at primary school who’d come in every day with a Ben Shaws brew (dandelion and burdock found most favour) from the latest delivery.

From memory our local post office carried Ben Shaws outdoor signage up until the late 80s, rather than the newspaper- or tobacco-oriented alternatives of all other similar buildings in the area at the time, before Royal Mail’s comparatively charmless red plastic signage was adopted.

Yes, due to being told I have ckd(level 5 now) Chips and chocolate and coffee have all left my life since May aswell as high potassium food such as Bananas, mushrooms and parsnips.

I’ve done it with ease to be honest as I’ve got strong mind power although with giving up my window cleaning round and working now in a canteen I find myself craving for Yorkie bars and double deckers…

Are you a low potassium food Mr Wilson?……

I’m a member of Chocaholics Anonymous, but do fall off the wagon from time to time

The latest bruising being due to a Christmas present of Huntley & Palmer’s Chocolate Olivers. Being very expensive and very tasty, the plan was to savour one, and one only, from time to time…delaying your pleasures, self-denial, don’t make a pig of yourself… blah blah

The pig’s squeal was too loud…all 12 biscuits disappeared in a two-hour binge

Lurverly, but remorse soon set in…much like the morning after the quiet gallon that was meant to be the quiet pint, but without the headache…be grateful for small mercies Drone :)

I can’t stop eating in January. It happens every year. I’m not very big; don’t weigh an awful lot and don’t eat much..but after Christmas, having changed my eating pattern for just one day I then spend a month eating anything and everything. Should be ok by Tuesday….

Stopped smoking last September and have not stopped eating since. Plusometer is now hovering at around 2 stone and alcohol intake up by at least 100%. Would have been healthier to keep drawing on the weed, methinks.

I only reall binge when Im hungover!! Like yesterday for example, I had not drank since newyears eve and gone to the gym 4 times a week for the last 3 weeks in order to get back in shape after the holidays! Then I went out for a quite pint saturday night and ended up crawling in the door at 8am Sunday morning!! Then I got up at about two and readily began munching my way through the day! A fry up, 5 packets of crisps, a crunchie mcflurry and a beef curry with large spring rolls!!

Haha basically everything I had cut out in one day!! Not to mention the 12 hour drinking session before!!

I used to be just the same Pompete. With McVities Digestives and Cadbury’s Mini Rolls….

Until I got Diabetes2 at 36 years old!

It is NOT only the elderly or fat that get it. Never been "overweight". It was the fact I ate too much sugary foods and lack of exercise.

    So Beware!

Now it is not a sugarless diet, but only 1 biscuit a day (if that). They go soft before I can eat them. The only cake I can have is 1 piece on a special day, about once a month. Still don’t take enough exercise!

I’ve never been drunk, and now can’t afford to be. Dangerous for Diabetics!

Thanks for the warning GT, but I only actually eat about 4 to 5 packets of biscuits a year – it’s just when I do eat them – I eat the whole lot in one go :P

Sorry to hear about your diabetes. I guess you have to workout the percentages of the different food types to eat. Do you have to use a table or list to help you combine the percentages correctly?

One thing you (we all in fact) need to be careful of is the Value ranges that are available – they usually contain hidden sugars and salt. So probably best to steer clear of the Value stuff.
