Dana is a transexual singer. Good song (compared to the average standard). Will attract lots of attention. Mixed English-Hebrew lyrics.

    23) ITALY – Madness of love, Raphael Gualazzi

Italy back after many years. Pleasantly heard number, Italian style.

    24) LATVIA – Angel in disguise, Musiqq

    Little impression.

This is for betting purposes only !
Any idea it relates to music is punished with imprisonment !
The 24 I heard so far that is.
Greece appeared for the first time in 1974. I don’t know why not before. Some little numbers we sent in the 70s were heavily pounded by our own critics, but they are one class above the 2011 songs !
Google gallop found it last years whereas the dedicated sites were tipping Azerbaijan.

froddo; I’ll be checking them out [too much time on my hands now the Irish National’s over]..Eurovision is great fun. I would assume that, after last year, the usual ‘peasants dancing round a hat with lots of fiddles playing] sort of song will have gone out the window. Do you go on the OLBG site, where it’s taken very seriously? I can also listen to the songs and read The Observer at the same time, which I can’t do when ‘studying’ a big race, trying to decide which horses to lose my money on.

Soft ballad. Normally can’t make it.

    26) MALTA – One life, Glen Vella

    Rhythmic. Little impression.

    27) MOLDOVA – So lucky, Zdob și Zdub

Last years folklorik song with the sheep was fantastic – probably punished for being folklork. This is a modern rock song but nothing great.

    26) POLAND – Jestem, Magdalena Tul

Nice girl and chorus. Should attract some attention.

    27) PORTUGAL – Luta e alegria, Homens Da Luta

A humorous song in traditional style. Good.

    Somewhat sympathetic.

    29) RUSSIA – Get you, Alexej Vorobjov

Good effort, from one of Eurovision’s strong powers.

    30) SAN MARINO – Stand by, Senit

    Tamish ballad.

Somewhat sympathetic. The Serbians always try.

    32) SLOVAKIA – I’m Still Alive, Twiins

    Run of the mill ballad.

    33) SLOVENIA – No one, Maja Keuc

Sympathetic. Might do something, if Slovenia could raise support.

    Latin rhythm. Catchy. Can do.

    35) SWEDEN – Popular, Eric Saade

The Swedes like UK are chasing a win for years. This is a good entry by this year’s standards. Contender.

    36) SWITZERLAND – In love for a while, Anna Rossinelli

    Catchy flipside.

Lekker op de trekker is my favourite Dutch. What happened to that one ?

    39) TURKEY – Live it up, Yüksek Sadakat

Another goodie from Turkey, Eurovision’s power house. You know it’s either 1st, 2nd or 3d.

    40) UKRAINE – Angel, Mika Newton

Little appeal, from strong eurovisioning nation.

    Some facts about Eurovision:

    The type of music

The type of music is western. It’s not prohibited to send a folk song but they usually get the thumbs down.
This year is dominated by this type of music and the lyrics of most of the songs are in English. Slight exceptions in style are the Cyprus song, the Italian song and the Portuguese song.

    The quality

Most people complain but blame it on the … composers.
This is what they managed, this is what we get.

    The blocks

There are three known strong alliances:

    – Soviet
    – Scandinavian
    – Balkan

The Balkan block sometimes calls for reinforcements to Med countries and to the "Asians" also.

There is no western block as such.

Blocks become active whenever there is something good in their ranks and they decide to support.

    The tours

Watch for the money spenders touring the various capitals where they make rehearsals.
Also for those who do have good entry but no money to spend.
Cyprus 2008 was considered a probable winner by many but the government decided to pay nothing either towards the performers expenses or for tours. They were disqualified in the preliminary (Evridiki – Comme ci, comme ca) ! Belgium 2009 the same. Belgian government decided "all you get is a trip from Brussels to Rotterdam by bus".

    The dark powers

There are plenty of dark powers. Their function is to promote unworthy songs to the top places.

    Nationalism

    Everybody supports their country’s entry.
This makes it sometimes difficult to gauge opinion, because quite naturally only one country wins.

My post is a little shorter.

All eggs in one basket this year. Back Bosnia at 16/1 and 7/2 for the second semi-final.
