Not sure if anyone on here will have a copy of the European Pattern book for 2012, but if they have I’d like to be able to get scans for the pattern race ratings for the European Group 1 events between 2009-2011.
October 10, 2012 at 13:17 #416051Sorry no. I may be wrong but I think the pattern book is published once a year and gives details/conditions of all pattern flat races to be run that year. Whether they publish the ratings races achieved each year which they obviously record I don’t know.
I suspect you know so apologies if I’m doing a grandmother and sucking eggs but the standard pattern race rating expected to be achieved for a G1 race is; 110 for 2yo’s and 115 for older horses.
The pattern race rating is the average of the annual ratings achieved by a race over a three-year period based on the average of the official ratings of the first 4 horses to finish plus, in respect of all races restricted to fillies, an allowance of 3lb for races restricted to 2 year olds and 5lb for all other races.
October 10, 2012 at 13:44 #416057No problem Brigadier, the European Pattern Book lists the 3 previous year’s ratings for all pattern races down to group 3 status. The 3 year average which is used to help maintain the integrity of the pattern is also given.
The BHA were helpful in providing the figures from 2000-08 when I requested but I only have the UK figures complete for this century. The European ratings I have for the period 2000-06 again courtesy of the BHA.
I have had a look on Weatherby’s website since posting the request and the book is reduced from £47 to £20 but as the information I am looking for is almost "out of date" it seems rather indulgent.October 10, 2012 at 14:36 #416061No problem Brigadier, the European Pattern Book lists the 3 previous year’s ratings for all pattern races down to group 3 status. I can see why you don’t want to spend £20. It doesn’t look exactly what you are after but perhaps the site below might be of some help.
October 10, 2012 at 15:14 #416067Is this any good to you?
42,537 European Pattern runners from 2005 to date.
GB,IRE,FR,GER and ITY.
Race date, country code, horse name, trainer, sire, RPR/Raceform ratings.Excel.xls
October 10, 2012 at 17:00 #416083Thank you BB, I’ll look and compare the figures I already have. The pattern uses the OR so there may be some discrepancies.
October 10, 2012 at 17:39 #416090Brigadier, although it does not have what I am looking for there is some interesting information.
For those who say there is too much racing a comparison of 2011 figures between France and Great Britain;
France had 9466 horses in training last year and 4792 races
GB had 9806 horses in training and 6270 races.
The French have much a better funding model yet can only viably sustain almost a quarter less races with a horse population of nearly 97% of the GB figure.
In conclusion there are an awful lot of horses running for the benefit of someone other than their owners in this country.
The above figures are for flat racing only.

What do you use to open this file?
October 10, 2012 at 19:01 #416095October 10, 2012 at 19:19 #416098Thank you Matron, alas the file does not have group 1 data and the Raceform RPR ratings are not the same as the end of season OR which is used to calculate the pattern rating.

October 14, 2012 at 08:38 #416665I finally got around to fixing the typo of mine and added the Group 1 races to the European Pattern races.
You should now find all the Pattern races from 2005 to 9/10/12.
(49,290 runners).
October 14, 2012 at 09:23 #416669Eclipse , please be careful , as your revelations show the point I have been trying to scream about for the last 7 years
We put on so many low grade dross for the bookies its just a sin , the real shame is , racing only gets a pittance back , meanwhile the entire genre of our racing is shattered daily
Careful you are going down the anti Bittar / racing for change mode , this will of course make you the troll that you are not !!!
Meanwhile back at the ranch , we must brace ourselves for another 5 months of wall to wall grade 6 racing
IMO of course
cheers
Ricky
