Hopefully it doesn’t rain too much
It’ll ruin the race If it gets really soft
June 4, 2022 at 00:30 #1600378When was the last time the Derby runners came stand side?
I know they keep a “fresh” part on the inner for Derby Day to try and negate the prospect, but there must be a chance of it happening if getting very soft.
I remember speculation before the 1983 Derby, but in the end Lester and Teenoso stayed far side.
Value Is EverythingJune 4, 2022 at 05:36 #1600397I live about five miles, as the crow flies, from the course and it’s been raining overnight and is still doing so now.
June 4, 2022 at 08:02 #1600406This rain is falling on ground which has arguably been overwatered historically in recent years.
It’s fresh ground on the inside, possibly making it less likely they will come Stands side, but if you haven’t already had a bet, the ones with proven form in mud might be the way to go.
I’m expecting Changingoftheguard and Stone Age to be among those favoured as they have Pattern form in such conditions.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"June 4, 2022 at 08:35 #1600411They’ve only had 0.5mm overnight according to Andrew Cooper but there is some forecast today. The entire far side should be fresh ground none of them wanted it yesterday presumably because it had been over watered
June 4, 2022 at 08:39 #1600412This surprised me, tbh, but it tends to suggest they missed most of the rain as stated above.
The time of the first race may be illuminating.

Predominantly Good ground, quicker in a few places from 1m 4f to 6f, and on top side of Home Straight.”

So don't run, just like the others always do
June 4, 2022 at 11:34 #1600440The communication from the clerks of the courses is appalling I have to say, really puts you off betting on the sport when the going which is such a key component is so cloak and dagger half the time. There was an update on Racing TV’s twitter an hour or so ago saying they’d had another 3mm since 8am from Andrew Cooper and that he was going to walk it again between 10-11am and provide a fresh update, expecting it could be good-soft in places. Its 11.30am now and no update on that walk anywhere in the media. Its the Derby, arguably flats flagship race and people betting on the basis of this mornings good-firm in places when it may be good-soft in places or softer.
June 4, 2022 at 11:52 #1600451I really can’t see anything beating Desert Crown. Anyway, here’s my prediction…
1st Desert Crown
2nd Stone Age
3rd WestoverJune 4, 2022 at 12:00 #1600459My bets – Star of India to win; a small e/w wager on Sonny Liston.
Best of luck to allJune 4, 2022 at 12:03 #1600461Stone Age 7-2 AP, Changingoftheguard 10-1 ew AP. Good luck all.

100% THIS.^
Every forecast I read all last night said it was raining in Epsom, Cooper comes on and says they missed the rain and it’s actually Good to Firm in places.
Every forecast this morning said it was cloudy and now sunny intervals – but he’s back on saying it may have gone Good to Soft.
Only utter mug punters will be betting regardless, anyone who actually tries to study form and win has been left utterly confused.
The only real guide will be the time of the first race at 2pm.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"June 4, 2022 at 12:09 #1600464Will Sonny Liston have a knockout punch?
Been looking for an outsider that will be dropped out the back and therefore be in a position to pick up the pieces if they go too quick early. Came up with Sonny Liston who was 2 1/2 lengths third to Star Of India (an 18/1 shot today) in the Dee Stakes after being dropped out last… And – what I particularly like to see – stable in cracking form with 9 of last 20 runners winning (3 of the last 4 at prices of 3/1, 11/8 and 10/1). On Racing Post ratings Sonny improved 10 lbs at Chester on good-soft. If (admittedly quite a big IF) that rate of progression is continued here, will put him in with a shout. Will need a fast run race in order to settle, but coming from where he’ll be early his chance will be gone anyway if they go slow. Whether he stays will also depend a lot on settling. Although by Lawman is a half brother to 1m4f Group 2 Princess Of Wales Stakes winner Dame Malliott (by Champs Ellysee).Worth a few quid each way @ 79/1?
Value Is EverythingJune 4, 2022 at 12:26 #1600468Utterly farcical. Racing post this morning said likely to be at worst good. No wonder punters bet on other sports rather than racing when the info given is so scrambled.
June 4, 2022 at 13:25 #1600483Today i’m burdening Walk Of Stars and Nahanni with an e/w flutter
June 4, 2022 at 13:58 #1600493Ground is on the easy side of Good so not bad at all.
June 4, 2022 at 14:08 #1600495Time according to ITV only 1.11 seconds outside standard there.
It’s Good ground, maybe a shade quicker even – after all, the 3yo winner was only rated 75 going into this and it’s just over a second outside standard.
