Only watched it back today but for me the most exciting performance of the season. It was the sort of performance which evoked memories of the top sprinters from the distant past. Although I probably missed the early quotes 16/1 still looks reasonable value given the horses on similar prices.
May 14, 2011 at 18:01 #355462I thought it was impressive at the time, and you’re the 2nd person to wonder whether the Golden Jubilee’s the way to go but I really cannot see it myself. He was beaten by Strong Suit, the horses he beat yesterday aren’t exactly top drawer and I just think he’ll struggle against better horses. He seems to be better fresh so I wouldn’t be surprised to see him go off the boil now either.
May 14, 2011 at 19:58 #355476He ran green as grass against Strong Suit, and would have still won hands and heels had Richard Hills been more interested in riding him than watching the big screen.
Looks classy alright – we’ll see how classy in coming months.
Whilst writing – i backed him the other day and ‘watched’ the race on BF as i was working. I thought i’d done my dough as he drifted to double figures (at least) during the race. I was therefore amazed to read both the official result and report, which confirmed a very comfortable win which apparently was never in doubt.
I haven’t watched the race – can anyone shed any light?
May 15, 2011 at 02:44 #355504He was held up and there were some arm movements from the jockey, but nothing significant. Surprised to read that.
May 16, 2011 at 10:41 #355653Thanks for the reply. Does seem a bit odd then, watching the in-running prices you would have thought something had gone drastically wrong at halfway.
May 16, 2011 at 15:32 #355702agree with Stilvi, have rated Elzaam at least as good as any other current sprinter in Europe.
He’s proven himself over CD at Ascot, and at 7lbs WFA, would only be afraid of the sprinters from abroad than over here.
16/1 looks massive to me.
May 24, 2011 at 22:21 #357080I fear I may have spoken too soon.
With Rocket Man out, I thought I’d have a very quick through the entries to try and find any value before some bookies updated their prices.
Nothing really stood out, but Markab, Elzaam and Bated Breath were 3 that interested me. Charlton mentioned a Group 3 at Newcastle for the latter, so despite breaking the track record, I’m not quite sure he’s up to the job.
I’ve backed Elzaam at 14s and Markab at 20s.
May 25, 2011 at 10:01 #357128Delegator is in a different league, can’t wait
May 25, 2011 at 11:20 #357142Have backed both Delegator 14/1 and Elzaam 16/1 (7/1 coupled) for the Jubilee.
If Ascot is on the firm side and Lady Of The Desert goes for the King Stand. Can’t see any European beating them. Even with the filly in the race, the two were / are tremendous prices. Rocket Man not in the betting, Star Witness may go for the King Stand first.
I was at Newbury and despite weakness in the market, Elzaam looked a picture. Shiny coat and well muscled up (imo). Every inch a sprinter. Did the job ramarkabley easy, cruising in to the race from rear and going clear. Admittedly the race wasn’t Group 1 Standard, but it was a good field for the grade and improvement is likely. Quickest time of any race run at the meeting judging by Racing Post standard times.
